Not heard back from job I got

i got verbally offered a job in a supermarket over the phone 2 days ago, I asked if I’ll get an email confirming it all and the man said it will take a couple of days. Today is Monday and no email confirming I have the job, although the man promised I had the position.

Am I being unreasonable in worrying that I may not have the job?

Presumably the people who process offers don't work over the weekend. Given they only offered you the job two days ago they've not had much time to process it. I imagine you'll hear from them later in the week.

They have likely only been in the office for 3 hours and 14 mins at the time you wrote this message, a couple of days will mean a couple of working office days for the team who deals with this. I'd say by Wednesday you should have something in writing.

SaffronsMadAboutMe · 09/09/2024 12:18

Give it till end of day tomorrow and then contact them.

A similar thing happened to me and it turned out the person who was supposed to contact me, had suddenly been taken ill.

You had a thread at the time why not just update that one?

You need to wait at least until the end of the day. References need to be followed up and it all needs signing off. Realistically a couple of days to allow for PT workers / sickness.

He will have meant two working days op, not the weekend.

Thank you all for your replies,

to be clear I haven’t given the employer any right to work documents or references yet

can an offer still be given without these? And am I likely worrying too much

Honestly please just calm down and give them time,

The offer can be made informally but is dependent on the checks so really you haven't got the job until the references are done you've just passed the application sift and interview, they are highly unlikely to send out the contract and start date without all of the relevant documents and checks being done.

A verbal offer is worth nothing.
Aait until you get an email notification, if you have an email address then no harm in sending an email with all your details and a covering note to say you are looking forward to receiving the contract.

Edited

should I still get an informal offer by writing? Because the man said the checks would be done at my induction. Thanks
