To ask about your IBS symptoms

And if you have a flare, how long does it last for you? I've suffered with IBS since my teenage years. Alternating from constipation to loose stools, urgency, pain and bloating. I know my triggers and generally try to avoid them. I haven't had a proper flare up in years.

For the last approx two weeks I've had an increase in frequency and loose stools (not diarrhoea) approx 3-4 times a day some days, lots of discomfort (churning/popping sensations) and bloating. I have had a stressful year so I'm wondering if it's just a flare up...I've also increased my fibre intake a little so appreciate that that be moving things through faster, but I'm also really worried about bowel cancer with the increased frequency thing. As if anything I'm usually more constipated. I'm not sure how long to leave it before seeing the GP and feel I'll likely get fobbed off due to already having IBS! I've had no bleeding. Any advice??

I'd ask to see your GP. Just explain it's due to sudden worsening of symptoms, I've done it before. They took a sample to check which didn't come back with anything but it was reassuring at least. Think main symptom of cancer is unexpected weight loss?

My symptoms are generally loose stools or diarrhea, urgency and bloating. Also awful reflux and a general gnawing sensation in stomach, which is currently being investigated as potential gallbladder issues and not neccessarily IBS related (although my panicky brain is worrying about cancer too!).
