Weed smoking neighbours

Neighbours smoking weed.

I'm getting an air purifier to help but what are your thoughts?

I'm half tempted to ask the building directors if they know who could be doing it but I also don't want to be that person to grass on someone.

Live in a block of flats of about 30 so not actually identified who they are.
Thankfully I'm out most of the day at work.
But it's a good couple of times in the evening I can smell it and sometimes in the morning.

When I open the front door in my flat and walk through the door your greeted with a great big woft of it.

It's embarrassing, having to explain your self to people, delivery drivers probably think we're massive stoners. What if you have a health visitor coming over? What if my landlord is coming over for an inspection?
Oh sorry it's not me lol. Are people believing that?

It's driving me crazy.

I'm not usually anti drug as such, I've smoked it myself before, I couldn't really care less, even if it was just a one off or maybe just once a day but I feel like it's relentless.

YANBU - try and find out who it is and report
YABU - let it go

I'd personally just let it go. If you feel self conscious I'd just say ' apologies for the stench of weed. It's one of my neighbours '.

Report? Nobody can or will do anything

Police won't be bothered and in a block of 30?it's probably several of them smoking it

TheHateIsNotGood · 08/09/2024 00:31

Out of 30 flats? I'd guess that probably 7 have a regular smoke of an evening and maybe 2 more do so occasionally. Unless it's a retirement complex and even then...

It's still a complete mystery to me why no growers or breed-makers have not yet developed non-smelly strains of marijuana! Some of my best roses have no scent so it can be done I'm certain.

Just imagine how much more relaxed and happy the tokers and non-smokers would be.

Itstime2023 · 08/09/2024 00:34

I'd say 50% of the flats are those who are retired. Not that it means anything 😂 probably still having a smoko anyway!

Yeah Weed boy next door. Not uncommon.

TheHateIsNotGood · 08/09/2024 00:40

@Itstime2023 - maybe the Winter Fuel Allowance is really many retired tokers 'smoko' fund? No wonder so many are up in arms.

Yes, in a way I'm joking, but having known a recently deceased pensioner, many a true word is said in jest.

Ugh, good luck!
I recently moved from an area I had been in most of my life because a weed smoker and his dad moved in next door during covid. They both smoked it every single night, multiple times without fail. My whole house stunk even with the windows closed, and it made me really unwell a few times. I couldn't open my windows in the summer. Horrible.

Pantaloons99 · 08/09/2024 00:48

My neighbour does it occasionally. Another neighbour was growing a weed farm at one point in blatant view in his garden. A number of years ago I was doing it to see if it would help my various crippling illnesses.

You don't want any of your neighbours to find out you report over something like this. Professionals can be absolute imbeciles at maintaining confidentiality. It's not worth it

ThisDenimKoala · 08/09/2024 00:58

It's tough. Do you have a building meeting or any way you can just raise it? Perhaps you can ask neighbours and see if it bothers them too?

Escalating it further is an option but police are unlikely to care and if they're using weed daily, they likely have a lot of other issues in their lives and you could make them worse by involving authorities.

At the end of the day you just have to do decide how much it bothers you and whether the potential consequences are worth taking action.
