To ask to consider job offer over weekend

I Have been offered a role after initially being told I was unsuccessful. The person they originally offered it to has dropped out so now I can have the job. I asked to take the weekend, is this okay to do?

My other half said I should have just said yes and now I’m worrying I won’t have it if I say yes on Monday. I do want it but I still just want to make sure and have a proper think. And I’m wondering if being second best isn’t great in recruitment process.
it would be a step up which is what I want so good for my career development.

Yes I think that’s absolutely fine . Happened to a friend of mine. He was initially told he was unsuccessful and then the top candidate dropped out. He asked for a couple of days as he had started to make other plans. They were fine, he took the job on the Monday.

I'm sure it's fine to ask for time to consider. When I left a role after three months it was offered to the interview runner up so I think it probably happens quite a bit.

It’s fine, I’ve asked for time before. Having had someone drop out I’m sure they’d be glad to know you e given proper consideration before committing.
