To ask if you’d use a sauna in the 3rd trimester?

Advice online is very mixed. Some countries advocate for saunas as a way to relax at every stage of pregnancy.

It is clear that there are risks in the first trimester (neural tube forming) but what about in the 3rd trimester? Do you think it would be safe to do this for short times? At all my appointments everything has been normal, normal blood pressure, I’m not anaemic and haven’t suffered with any dizziness.

I would make sure I am well hydrated and don’t stay in for more than a few minutes at a time. Equally I would never do anything that would risk baby and there are disclaimers saying use is not recommended in pregnancy / consult your GP before use. I imagine all GPs would just say no, but like I say I have seen it is common practice to use saunas in some countries and there doesn’t seem to be any documented adverse effects.

MN thoughts please!

I wouldn’t. Pregnant women here are advised against even having too hot bathing water during the last stage of pregnancy.

Dutchesss · 06/09/2024 11:05

There are safer ways to relax so it's not worth the risk. Unborn babies can get stressed when our body is too hot.

BlastedPimples · 06/09/2024 11:06

No. I was too hot anyway in my pregnancies.

I'd avoid until not pregnant.

pyjamalife · 06/09/2024 11:08

Not a chance. It's dangerous to the baby.

LabradorVibe · 06/09/2024 11:08

I wouldn't - but I'm generally feeling too warm constantly, so the thought of a sauna is alarming rather than inviting..!

I've not done much research on why, but have seen advice that pregnant women shouldn't raise their core temperature.

CuriousGeorge80 · 06/09/2024 11:09

No definitely not!

singularcessation · 06/09/2024 11:10

No. It's 9 months of your life. Just stay on the safe side I reckon.

ICanBuyMyselfFlowersICanWriteMyNameInTheSand · 06/09/2024 11:11

No I wouldn't.

TwirlyWitch · 06/09/2024 11:19

Absolutely not. Wait until you’ve given birth

WickWood · 06/09/2024 11:19

I'm almost 37 weeks pregnant and definitely wouldn't either. I'm always boiling too though!

Edingril · 06/09/2024 11:20

No because I couldn't see a need too same as bungee jumping or wearing a fedora

No reason too so what would I?

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 06/09/2024 11:22

No, absolutely not. It's not something that you really really need to do, so why would you? Just wait.

Peonies12 · 06/09/2024 11:24

I can barely cope with how hot I feel anyway, at 37 weeks, let alone going in a sauna! I wouldn't risk it myself, just wait and enjoy it after baby is out.

pinkdelight · 06/09/2024 11:31

Nope, why even think of risking it. No one needs a sauna that much.
