To think there should be a way to hide thread titles?

So many times I open Mumsnet to find a horrific and distressing title on a thread and wish I could hide it so I don't have to see it pop up every time I open the page.

If there isn't some way to hide thread titles, should there be?

There is. You just hide the whole thread. On the app I just swipe (right?) on the thread and it gives me the option to hide it.

YANBU, that you should be able to open up MN safely without seeing things you rather wouldn’t.

YABU thinking that just by automatically filtering out words will save you form seeing such content. All that will happen is people will start censoring the ‘trigger’ word (example: “Mums*et”) so it gets past the filter so more people see it.

I believe you can "mute" words on Twitter. I haven't used it in a long time but it was very effective.

I think the ability to mute certain words (which would hide the thread) and a requirement to use specific thread titles would be great.

Yep you'd think it would be an option on the three dots on a thread but the only choice that comes up for me is Watch.

Totally agree, I think you should be able to hide whole sections of the chat board too. Would like to be able to,

You can hide threads

You can hide any topics you want. Scroll to bottom of Customise and you’ll see Manage hidden threads and topics. Click on that and you can sort what topics you want to see or not.

If you can’t find customise (I had to contact MN because I couldn’t find it when it all changed) it’s here (no idea where it is on the app, sorry).

At the top of the thread it says watch, flip, hide. I hid one earlier today about a dog, I couldn’t bear to see even the title.

I'm pretty sure you can actually. Likely in browser like all functionality. I'm an app user.

You can hide both threads and whole topics although that isn't always reliable as there's no effort made to keep threads under the topic headings

100% agree! Reddit allows you to hide titles, the option should be available here too.

You can hide individual threads.
You can hide whole topics.

Why do you mean by titles? Choosing a specific thread to hide once youve read the title?

Yes, that's what I mean. I've taken a look and can't find the option but I'm not using the app so not sure if it's different.

You can, press this then hide the thread.

However, I do think some titles should be more descriptive so you can see whether you want to read it or not.

I dont know about the app but on the mobile and website you just turn on the option and hide away to your hearts content
