To ask my boss if I can study this course

The opportunity has come up for me to study for a funded short course at a local university. It would be for 12 weeks, so until Christmas, and 3 hours of class per week. The class is from 9am-12pm on a Tuesday morning. I am keen to learn and take opportunities to develop myself.

The university/provider of the course is not linked to my employer, however the content of the course is loosely related to my job and to potential future roles with my employer.

We have flexi, so I'm wondering if it would be reasonable for me to ask my boss if I could take a half day flexi (morning) on Tuesdays to attend the class and come into work after lunch on that day. I would then make up the time on other days throughout the week to ensure I'm still working 37 hours per week. It would be for 12 weeks, after which I would return to my normal hours. Is this a reasonable request, or do you have any other ideas?

If you don't ask, you definitely don't get. It's a reasonable request.

Don't ask don't get!

It’s definitely a reasonable request as you’re not asking to do it work time, just have the flexibility, for a defined time period. You may as well ask.

Sounds like a totally reasonable request unless there is something that happens on a Tuesday morning that you absolutely need to be there for.

Totally reasonable
