What is this mark on babys eye?

I'm not really sure which topic would be best to post this under so sorry that it's in the wrong place.

Does anyone know what this red mark on one of my baby's eyes is? Is it something to be concerned about or speak to my GP about?

For context baby is 2 weeks old and i have noticed the mark for about a week now. I assumed it was a scratch or something and it would heal on its own but so far it doesn't seem to be getting any better or worse.

What is this mark on babys eye?

The other eye looks similar? Or not?

LongLiveTheSaviour · 03/09/2024 15:35

Also it might be worth adding that It's not affecting their vision, isn't raised, sore or spot like, and baby can fully open their eye without issue It just seems to be constantly red.

She was in special care after birth so it's difficult to know if this is something she was born with. I, possibly stupidly, didn't pay attention to what may be imperfections at that point but looking back at photos it does look like the redness has always been there just maybe not as obvious red (if that makes sense) so it doesn't seem to be something "new" and no one professional wise has made any comments on it. So maybe I'm just worrying over nothing but just a niggling curiosity incase it's something more.

No it's just the one eye.

Are you still under midwife care? If so speak to them

Meditationgame · 03/09/2024 15:41

Oh and congratulations!

Look like eczema to me, but im not a doctor so dont take that as gospel!

Babyworriesreal · 03/09/2024 15:45

Common site for a birth mark - will look more red when she is getting worked up. Most like that fade away eventually.

TaylorNotSoSwift · 03/09/2024 15:47

Looks like a stork mark, very common and disappears in toddlerhood.

Looks like exema to me. But agree, ask a medical professional.

I suffer from exema and I used to get it on my eye lids.

No we aren't still under midwife care anymore but when we were they never commented about it, neither has the HV which makes it seem like its nothing.

I was just wondering if it's nothing sinister then I could just wait until our 6-8 week PP check and ask about it then but I don't know if that may be too late. Maybe I'm worrying over nothing.

Leave it for the 6 week check but obviously get seen sooner if you're worried about it at any point.

My daughter had that on the exact same eye, same location. It eventually disappeared after a few weeks. Don't worry!

Trust your instincts, he’s far too young to be taking risks with his health if you’re worried. Call the hospital or health visitor (you should have been given a contact number when taking him home) and they can advise if they think it needs looking at. Don’t let people on here tell you otherwise! Better to waste ten minutes on the phone if it’s nothing than baby have something and you not check.

Same here. Both my kids have had that for a couple of weeks after birth, disappeared by about 6 weeks I think? Like a stork mark.
