Do you have her address? How do you know the letter hadn't already been received by her?

Aww, what a lovely letter!

Do you live near Petworth?

What a lovely letter!

I love it when I find something in a secondhand book that links the book to a previous owner.

I think that the book and letter were received, and the book has now been passed on for someone else to read, presumably as the child to whom it was given will now be in her early 20s. She must have kept the letter in the book, and now they’ve moved on together. No reason why a book shouldn’t have been sent from a grandparent in Sussex to a grandchild in Edinburgh.

I wouldn’t post it back to her - if it never reached her then it might be upsetting if grandpa is no longer with us, and if she has given the book away after receiving it she might feel awkward about it.
