DH and I have been giving some serious consideration to getting an Au pair next summer.
We have an 18 month old and I’m pregnant again, so will have a new baby by then.
We have no family help and DH works away most weeks. DS currently goes to nursery twice a week. I think I could do with an extra pair of hands around the house when baby is born.
I’m interested in hearing experiences , mainly what kind of things does the au pair help with and what could we expect?

I’m obviously not expecting full time child care from them but is it realistic to think they’ll hold the baby if DS needs me or prepare dinner and tidy up at night if DH is away while I do bed time? Do they ‘work’ set hours each day?

Au Pairs are very hard to come by post-Brexit. You maybe want a mother's help instead. Or a babysitter.

But, yes, in the times of au pairs they would be able to hold the baby while you play with the toddler/play with the toddler while you hold the baby. That's actually a nice job for an au pair looking to branch into nannying.
