AIBU to say no

I have been nominated to go on the committee of my sports club, something I don't want to do nor have the time to do at the moment as it involves weekday meetings etc.. However, I would like to eventually coach younger members and feel I'd be giving something back this way. I hate saying no and tend to be a bit of a people-pleaser, but being on this committee is really not for me. AIBU to say no?

Of course you aren't.

But if you genuinely mean what you say in the OP, then say it to whoever has asked you. "I just don't have the capacity at the moment, but I would like to give back through coaching the youngsters after I've finished this project at work / once my dc are a bit older / when I've finished my studying / whatever it is that is filling your time, so keep me informed of any training that becomes available, that I might need to do (safeguarding / coaching badge / First Aid / Etc).

Yes, that's what I'm going to say, about hoping to coach after the winter. I think it's just in my nature to feel bad saying no to somebody.

Don't get pulled into something you haven't got time for now. It really can be a big commitment and can take over your life!

Yes, that's the problem, I don't have a lot of time to give anything like this, which involves weekday evening commitment, whereas if I was coaching it's at weekends.

So I explained my situation and said I'd be happier coaching at weekends in the coming months, that I don't have the time during the week. Still hate saying no, though.
