To be concerned about this noise my 5_year old keeps making

It's mainly happening at night. It's like a subtle clearing her throat noise and she does it again and again and again. Been going on for a few days. No cold or breathing issues. I'm not even sure she's fully aware that she's doing it. Does anyone know what this could be

Also, this is when she's still awake. Not asleep

Possibly her tonsils & adenoids.

Sleep apnea?

TheClawDecides · 31/08/2024 00:51

Could be catarrh?

Or it could be a habit developing?

My son had various vocal and facial tics over the years (that he's mostly grown out of). Many have involved noises like that. If it did turn out to be that, magnesium supplements always helped to stop them (they would return after a while if he stopped taking it). When he was younger he had Floradix liquid magnesium. Might be worth a try if nothing else helps.

My daughter does this. She has a deviated septum and from what we've been told it seems that mucus is dripping down the back her her throat causing a tickly, irritating feeling. Take her to an ENT specialist and see if there is a physical cause.

Could it be allergies? Does Piriton or similar help?
My allergies get worse in the evening and I often feel like I have a clogged up throat that won't clear

It's post nasal drip. I have it and it drives me nuts! Can be down to allergies.
