Sleep deprivation or losing my mind?!

A helicopter went over my house and past the window.

I got a warm, comforting feeling knowing I was tucked up in bed, and it was ‘against the rules’ to be out of bed beyond a certain time

A huge wave of relief and comfort came over me knowing the helicopter wouldn’t catch me out, and would simply fly on

I felt very happy at the thought of all of my neighbours settled in bed and they couldn’t be caught out either

Am I just sleep deprived (carer) or is this me losing my marbles a bit? 😁

I mean, the facts are I am imagining so strange Nanny state where the grown ups are making sure we are behaving. Very odd

I had similar thoughts when I was on a coach years ago and it was dark

I slept and felt immense comfort at that other adults in front chatting and quietly having a laugh. It felt like the ‘adults were there’ and I would be okay

It also happened when I was in hospital overnight and the nurse sat at her dimly lit station, doing notes etc

I don’t suffer from anxiety so it’s all very strange

I would feel soothed by those scenarios too OP. Very cosy.

I wonder if it's your brain trying to give you "permission" to switch off and relax for a bit? If you are not getting to switch off so it's kind of force you to?

Best get yourself some respite just to be on the safe side!

Thank you! I was wondering what the feeling was actually about, and trying to articulate it was really hard

Soothing seems to be a word that had escaped me

You've actually listed at least 2 things (the adults chatting and the nurse at the dimly lit station) that i have felt comforted by myself, but I had completely forgotten, and would never have thought of them myself if asked 'think of a scenario you've found comforting', but now you've mentioned them it's like memories have flooded back to me of that same comforting feeling!! You've worded it perfectly!!

Have you ever considered writing a cosy book bc I would definitely read it 😂🩷

Yes, I agree. I actually now feel comforted by OP's description of these comforting situations 🤣, especially the nurse at the dimly lit station.
