To ask if you have a horrendous cough right now?

I don’t feel ill, I just cannot. stop. coughing. Hacking horrible dry cough. Occasionally productive but mostly just dry. No other symptoms, other than lost voice on a morning. I did a COVID test out of curiosity and it was negative. Does anyone else have this at the moment?

There's a lot of whooping cough around and you can get it even if you are fully vaccinated.

I’ve had this. I was coughing all the way through June and July and think it was whooping cough. Hope you feel better soon

Really? I’m worried now, as I’m pregnant! I had the whooping cough vaccine myself maybe about a month ago?

Gosh I didn’t know this. I’ve only just had my vaccination for it as well, maybe a month ago… I’m pregnant!

My husband had it for a month. Intensely irritating. We couldn’t go anywhere like art galleries or concerts or similar. Messed up his sleep. But no harm done and all ok within a few weeks. Such a hassle though.

Same & 2 DDs have it as well. I just assumed it was viral bronchitis given it’s productive. Doesn’t sound whoopy at all.

Lovelyview · 30/08/2024 20:56

Me. Feeling very sorry for myself. Had it for two weeks, chest X ray, antibiotics still no improvement. 🙁

Fragglerock75 · 30/08/2024 21:28

Yes! Went back to the gym for one class after a holiday, started coughing the next day and still haven’t stopped -
it’s been 2 weeks. Chest is a little tight but nothing major and it’s worse at night which is v.annoying. Very ready to get back to normal.

clarrylove · 30/08/2024 21:39

Yes me! Had it for months now. Horrible dry cough. I was advised to the anti histamines and they did help. Nothing else did. I think I'm finally getting a bit better now.

That's exactly what has happened to me, except that it started with covid (did a test at home and it was positive). I got over the first part of the illness fairly quickly and didn't cough that much at first. But 8 weeks later, I'm wondering if it's whooping cough/viral bronchitis/something else. The chest X-ray supposedly showed an infection, but 5 different antibiotics have had no effect.

Krupkrups · 30/08/2024 22:14

Yes both DC had now DH - they were all poorly - temp etc tho but no other real distinct symptoms bar cough.

Krupkrups · 30/08/2024 22:15

This isn't covid here bit we did all have it at the end of May/start of June

IntrepidCat · 30/08/2024 22:17

Yes, we all have it now but it’s not the right sound/symptoms for whooping cough and LFT was also negative for covid. Suspect it’s just another generic viral illness doing the rounds.

Hope you feel better soon.

Summertimer · 30/08/2024 22:55

Got it in April, better by July - they call it hundred day cough. I can still summon a juddery cough every now and then if my hay fever is peaking

I did a covid test but it was negative. I had pneumonia in February. Maybe it has come back although I had a clear chest xray in April. Hope you feel better soon.

I had it too. Lasted about 8 weeks. Productive at first then dry. Violent coughing fits particularly at night and then difficulty breathing in after a coughing bout to catch my breath - either through nose or throat, like everything had swelled up blocking airways - very frightening when that happened. It then disappeared as spontaneously as it had arrived.
