Can't cope with this anymore

Struggling to cope with my 5 to Dd. On holiday at the minute, screaming and crying, doesn't want to get ready, wants to wear something else but doesn't want to change, screaming over nothing, lashing out, hitting me in the face. Went out earlier and she's screaming, shouting, making a scene. Picked her up to go out the shop she's screaming 'ow, ow, ow, ow' when nothing was wrong and everyone was staring. Then she was upset that people were looking. Everything I do is wrong , the change of routine for this holiday has unsettled her. She isn't enjoying the crowds, melt downs. Can't cope

Is there anywhere you can take her to distract her? Waterpark, playground, petting zoo...? Somehow get her dressed and take her out and let her focus on something else and burn off some energy.

My Ds was like this when travelling at age 5/6. We had one holiday last summer that was really tricky with him, behaving exactly as you described OP. Literally every day/meal etc was such a drama. It seemed like a culture shock issue despite the fact we'd only been in France that time! We've travelled much further this year and he's just turned 7. There's such a difference in how he's handled it, he's been interested, trying new foods and generally behaving very well. Maybe it's an age thing..?
