Friend with eight month old in a sling out in large city and decides to take taxi home instead of the bus. Taxi driver insists baby can't stay in the sling but can sit on the middle booster thing with a seat belt. Friend ends up in bizarre situation where she is balancing wobbly baby on a boost seat before thinking - this is crazy and gets off to get the bus.

Taxi driver was not BU

Wearing a seatbelt over a baby in a sling will kill it in a crash!

Taxi drivers not unreasonable. Perhaps unreasonable to suggest a booster with such a young child but I think the law is use the best seat available so technically wasn't illegal

@LikeWeUsedToBe the same thing could happen if the bus was in a crash to be honest.
It's usually recommended in taxis to have babies/toddlers sit on your lap if there's no car seat available. I was told to have the seat belt around me and then hold onto my child.
Of course not the safest if the taxi crashed but there wouldn't be a seatbelt at all on a bus or train (and trains go even faster) - so it's a decision the parents have to make.

Yes, it's an odd one. Not sure what the answer is really. Best avoid taxi probably

Yeah if you put a seatbelt over a baby in a sling and there is a crash, that belt is going to.snap that baby's spine. He was not being unreasonable at all.
