To be upset by this

I haven't been with anyone in 3 years. Talking about this with my friends today, one of them suggested I hire a prostitute. I feel really upset by it.

Well it wouldn't be my suggestion but they were either being flippant or suggesting a way to get an itch scratched. I wouldn't read anything into it or let it upset me if I was you.

Can you say what is it that upsets you about the suggestion specifically?

I have real issues with prostitution. Which I would have stated and then moved on.

If you are upset that suggests you are taking the comment as a judgment on you as a person.

If they were serious, I'd question their judgement, but I don't see why you'd take it personally.

Just ignore them.

It upsets me because I feel like it suggests I'm that desperate that I'd pay for it and Im not. Or like I'm not attractive enough to attract someone in a normal way but I'd have to pay someone to be with me. They are all in relationships which already makes me feel like the odd one out and I'm left out of all chat when they all talk about couple things.

That was a horrible thing to say, I agree. What a ridiculous comment! Don't take it as a slight on you, it says nothing at all about you and plenty about the person passing the remark.

What exactly are you upset about? Your friend's idea or that they think that's the only way you would get laid? Depends on the context and the tone in which it was said. If you were offended, you should have shut them right away. Don't see the need to take it so personally.
