To ask for tips on starting secondary school?

My eldest starts Year 7 on Tuesday, and I am sure there are other parents in here who's children are also about to start secondary.

Can anyone share their best tips to support them through the first few weeks, especially for children who aren't the best at making friends?
and just any other tips about changes you might not expect, how to get them to take homework seriously and changes in their social life.

I teach Y7 and every year I give out a few plasters on the first day back. So my top tip is to wear in any new shoes in advance.

Please reassure your DC that they can and should speak to any adult if there are any issues. We are here to help.
