Recurrent infections. I’m so fed up

I’ve got tonsillitis right now, few months back I had a chest infection. I keep getting these type of infections. I know this sounds dramatic but I am so fed up I can’t deal with the pain. If I didn’t have kids I would seriously have killed myself by now. I feel like crap. My throat feels like it’s got razor blades everytime I swallow. I’m on Antiobiotics but the pain is not going. Can someone please give me some advice on how I can stop getting these infections. I went to sleep sobbing yesterday. I literally roll myself out of bed to get the kids food and back to sleep again,

How old are your children? When my kids were small, I remember going through a long period of getting a lot of of very painful throat and chest infections – hand foot and mouth, tonsillitis, strep. It was incredibly painful, back to back and relentless. It DID get better. Your body had a weak point and you likely aren't getting sufficient rest for your immune system to get on top of it.

Have you been tested to check if the bacteria is sensitive to the antibiotics prescribed?

This happened to me for 6 months after having covid. I think it will all clear up eventually

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but mine stopped after moving to a hot climate.

I had bronchitis and tonsillitis chronically and it was absolutely unliveable for years and after moving i was fine within maybe 2 weeks and I've not had an infection since.

Is there any way you could spend a few weeks somewhere hot to try and kick it?

You can buy throat numbing spray. I want to say it's called Difflam but I'm not sure where I've got that name in the back of my head from. It's got a long thin nozzle that you aim at the sorest parts. It's takes the edge off the razor blades.

Thank you everyone. I’m feeling so fed up. We live in the UK in a new build house which gets very hot so we have air con fitted in bedroom. DH has this blasting ever night! I’m sure that’s what’s making me I’ll but he refuses to turn it off. I wait for him to fall asleep most nights then turn off but he ends up turning it back on when I’m asleep! Even in winter he has it turned on! I’m always cold whereas he’s always warm

The kids are primary school aged. I don’t think they giving it to me, the pattern always is me or DH get I’ll first then give to each other then kids get it

Sounds like hell. Do you have a spare room you could sleep in for a bit. Your DH is being a bit selfish here. He should turn it off. You need to be at a comfortable temperature in order to rest properly and get better.

Zanatdy · 30/08/2024 09:32

I bet it is the air con. Your DH needs to be more considerate. Why does his comfort take precedent over yours

Hankunamatata · 30/08/2024 09:41

Ibuprofen was only thing that helped plus difflam throat spray

He can bloody well turn it off until you are better! Selfish git.
