Hydrocortisone cream

Are you taking a daily antihistamine as well?

Seeline · 28/08/2024 09:31

Oral antihistamines might help, but I react to mosquito bites, and they can be itchy for several weeks no matter what I do or take.

wineosaurus4 · 28/08/2024 09:39

I read on here just yesterday that putting a hot spoon on the bite takes the itch out.. suppose you could give it a try!

UpTheMagicFarawayTree · 28/08/2024 09:41

I recommended Zambuk to someone yesterday, it is the only thing I have ever found to work on itchy bites.

Devonchills · 28/08/2024 09:47

I bought a clicker thing from Amazon for my bites which was amazing, stopped the itch straightway.

suki1964 · 28/08/2024 09:47

This definitely works or you can buy a device on. Amazon that does similar
However be careful the bites don't get infected. Double dose on antihistamine (take 2 different varieties) and use creams as PP have suggested

spanieleyes22 · 28/08/2024 09:55

Thanks everyone I haven't been taking anti histamine so I'll start that. Might try the clicker !

Also, cover the bites with plasters. It really helped me stop itching them.

ihaveanaughtydog · 28/08/2024 10:13

I react really badly to mosquito bites. I have found that if you aim a hot hairdryer at it, the itching goes away. Get as close as you can with the nozzle. You can only tolerate a few seconds. You may need to do it a couple of times. It does work though

Movinghouseatlast · 28/08/2024 10:16

I react badly too. Hydrocortisone cream, hot hairdryer, little bit of Nurofen gel all work to some extent.

Luluem · 28/08/2024 10:18

I will second the clicker thing from Amazon - the Beurer (German manufacturer). Heats it up instantly and draws the itchiness out (and usually a fair bit of swelling too), complete game changer. Best of luck!

Breadcat24 · 28/08/2024 10:22

I found the clicker worked but made the bites scar

Octavia64 · 28/08/2024 10:23

Take antihistamine tablets

Cut your nails so you can't scratch them

Hydrocortisone cream but get a dressing or plaster and put it on immediately after you put the cream on it will keep it on the skin.

Try Tiger Balm.

I was travelling in Thailand - took Boots' best, didn't touch the sides of the bites - went into a Thai chemist - she took one look at me and got Tiger Balm off the shelf - I have literally never used anything else since and I try to tel everyone I can.

You can buy it easily now even in Boots. I put it in my bag and it stays there the entire summer. Soon as I get bitten, I stick it on and the bite goes cold and stops itching. Nothing else works - try this, it is excellent.

Definitely try the clicker, too. The device very briefly heats up the affected area, providing instant (and long lasting) relief. It's been a game changer for us.

Hairdryer.

zingally · 28/08/2024 11:06

I got a bad sunburn on the backs of both my legs that hot week we had about 3 weeks ago. It was the itchiest sunburn I've ever had and went on for days.

I found that a warm shower with the spray directly on the itch helped a lot. It seemed to disrupt/turn off the itch long enough for me to go to bed and not be bothered by it. A layer of cold Sudocrem helped as well.

For bad insect bites though, my go-to is Bonjela (the mouth ulcer gel). My dad suggested it to me years ago when I got a cluster of bad bites right at the top of my bum. That numbed it completely. The gel doesn't really "dry" though, so you'll need to be able to leave them uncovered.

I'm super-prone to skin irritations and hives that come out of nowhere. I take a daily oral antihistamine every morning, and that seems to help a lot. It can take a few tries to find the one that works best for you though, as they all have different active ingredients.

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 28/08/2024 11:08

I used to take a bath with salt- salt water really stops the itching- especially before bed.

SingingSands · 28/08/2024 12:08

If you can get hold of those little "pimple patches" try sticking one on each bite. Will work wonders, and stop you scratching overnight.

Mozzie bites are the worst. So annoying!

DramaAlpaca · 28/08/2024 13:05

Yes to the hairdryer suggested above. It takes out the itching for about 12 hours.
