Is this the camping trip from hell.

Just want to start by saying we camp 2 or 3 times a year and have loved it. Don’t know if we have been really lucky with campsites.
yep there has been the odd annoyance but on the whole great.

Arrived at a campsite yesterday and the family in the tent next door just seem to yell at each other all the time. If they are not yelling at each other they are yelling at the dog. The adults are constantly swearing at each other and the two little girls just seem to scream

To make it the 2 girls aged about 5 kept running in our tent laughing and running out again. At one point when DH and DS had bobbed to the campsite shop and I was looking for something in the car I looked back at the tent to see both girls coming out of our tent with one of my sons board games. I stopped them and said they should not take things that dont belong to them and to stop coming in our tent. All I got in return was them both sticking their tongue out at me.

When my DH came back he went over and had a word but they parents could not seem to grasp while we didn’t want their little darlings on our tent and said they would only be borrowing the board game.

Woke up this morning at 6 to the girls running around our tent screaming and shouting for my son to wake up. My son is 12 and wants nothing to do with them. Luckily it stared raining so they went back to their tent.

Later this afternoon came back to the campsite after a day out and not only has a new family pitched their tent right up next to ours so we could literally reach out and touch their tent from standing inside ours, they have pitched over were the car is meant to go.

all the tents are pitched so there is a tent and then a car on the right hand side but they have 2 cars and have just taken up their pitch and half of ours. I did point out this to them but I just got a shrug of the shoulders.

We did mention to the owners of the campsite this had happened and they did say they would have a word if we really wanted them too but could we just put our car by reception. We got the feeling they did not want any confrontation. So our car is now by reception. Not a huge deal but still a bit inconvenient.

i am now in our tent listening to an argument from the family next door. The kids screaming and the dog going bat shit barking. Plus the ones that are right up next to us the bloke keeps hacking at the time.
So you get that massive hack noise as if he is trying to bring something up. The women with him had a cackle laugh that would put Amanda Holden and Alisha Dixon to shame.

My DH has gone out to get ear plugs

Omg I’d have to leave. The snorting up phlegm would have done it for me!!

cardibach · 27/08/2024 20:32

Camping is shit. It’s even shitter with bad neighbours, but in a hotel they’d be less of an issue , so it boils back down to camping being shit.

WitchyBits · 27/08/2024 20:33

Unfortunately it's the luck of the draw with certain campsites. I only camp in a few places due to this, and my regular sites are ones with strict rules about spacing. But. It's the 6 weeks. Space is at a premium . I feel your pain.

Ridiculousme · 27/08/2024 20:33

Sounds horrific. Our end to camping holidays came after camping at the top of a (very sloping) cliff in Cornwall in torrential rain and gale force winds.

No, thank you.

SpringKitten · 27/08/2024 20:33

This sounds absolutely horrific! At least it’s only temporary.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 27/08/2024 20:34

I would genuinely move campsite. That sounds miserable.

TickingAlongNicely · 27/08/2024 20:35

Ask the campsite if another pitch is available?

Maxpanda · 27/08/2024 20:35

Omg that does sound hellish! I can't believe some people are so inconsiderate and ignorant of their behaviour.

MissBoomBastic · 27/08/2024 20:36

Is there any chance of you moving pitch, preferably somewhere much further away?

Stowickthevast · 27/08/2024 20:36

Can you find another campsite? We only go to ones where the pitches are really spread out so you're not on top of any strangers. The down side is basic facilities but I much prefer it!

FranceIsWhereItsAt · 27/08/2024 20:36

Nightmare OP! But you've obviously been lucky up until now. In your shoes I'd either go home or see if I could move somewhere else. However, try not to let it spoil your holiday, in a few years time you'll look back and laugh about the cheeky little madam's that kept going in your tent, and the mad family pitched next to you.

Iheartmysmart · 27/08/2024 20:37

Sounds like a crappy campsite. All the ones I’ve been to in the past have a strictly enforced distance between tents which is vital in case of fire. I’d ask for a refund and go home personally.

TheCompactPussycat · 27/08/2024 20:38

OK, that sounds horrific!

I was going to see your camping trip from hell and raise you mine last year where DD had the most appalling D&V bug and projectile vomited all over the tent at 3am, but no! I'm a tough camper but your experience would have me packing up and leaving.

TokyoSushi · 27/08/2024 20:38

Can you leave?

Londonrach1 · 27/08/2024 20:39

Ask the campsite for another pitch, if not leave...use the excuse of no parking by your tent. Yanbu.

TheCompactPussycat · 27/08/2024 20:39

I should add, that is a really crappy campsite though. Owners may not want confrontation but if they can't manage a campsite properly, they shouldn't be running one.

Oneearringlost · 27/08/2024 20:39

Definitely change pitch...insist if possible...the campsite owners already know you're unhappy and can't even park your car.
They don't want to confront your fellow camping neighbours so I think they'd probably try their best for you to organise another pitch.
Good luck, it sounds Godawful.

TickingAlongNicely · 27/08/2024 20:42

We once had the "pleasure" of our neighbours bringing a karaoke machine. They had booked five pitches, parked their kids in the far one so they could get sleep while they had a very loud party until 2am. Next to other tents where our toddlers were, and other small children

KatyaKabanova · 27/08/2024 20:44

cardibach · 27/08/2024 20:32

This x 1,000,000.
Why on earth do people do it?

Ilikewinter · 27/08/2024 20:45

I would certainly be kicking up a fuss with the manager. They either tell the people to shift thier car, or find you another pitch. In fact I'd rather move.

WonderingWanda · 27/08/2024 20:45

This sounds horrendous. I would marching the little girls back to their parents every time and having some strong words with them. As for the cheeky fuckers who have pitched on your parking space, I would be pulling out their tent pegs and pushing their tent back onto their pitch and parking my car. There are rules about how close tents are meant to be as its a massive fire hazard.b the camp site owners sound shit and I would be pushing for my money back. None of this is normal on camp sites.

That said, many people that camp now are complete dicks who think it is totally acceptable to play their music loudly to the entire campsite at midnight. Stick to the really little sites with very few amenities as this seems to discourage the dicks. Avoid anywhere with a clubhouse or pool.

Stoptherideiwanttogetoff24 · 27/08/2024 20:45

Refund time

museumum · 27/08/2024 20:47

That does sound awful. I’d be asking quite firmly for a different pitch in another part of the site.

Birdseyetrifle · 27/08/2024 20:48

Ask them to get them to move or you want a refund

Redgreenfroggy · 27/08/2024 20:50

. The dad has just called one the girls a useless little fucker. Oh my goodness I want to hug them now. My husband had booked us into a nice b and b for the next two nights so we have tonight and then will be leaving. We are going to talk to the owner about at least a nights refund.
