New Nationwide cards - card not reading

RechargeableGnu · 27/08/2024 12:27

My new Nationwide card (navy with details on the back) is being refused at way more places than the old one (which was never refused).

Particularly in petrol stations...anyone else finding this?? It's like their system can't read the card design.

There is plenty of money in the account so it's not me!

You probably just have a faulty card, order another, its not difficult

Bluevelvetsofa · 27/08/2024 13:02

Take it to a branch of Nationwide to check and order a new one.

Whothefuckdoesthat · 27/08/2024 15:42

My DH has one of those. I think it might be your card. (Watch his card get refused at the petrol station now!)

toycat · 27/08/2024 15:47

I've had this too, but it's fine when I put the card and pin in

MonsterasEverywhere · 27/08/2024 15:56

I've got a new Nationwide one and it's fine (not had any issues). Sounds like yours might be faulty.

Add it to Apple Pay / Google Pay and use your phone

But they’ve closed loads of branches so it’s not that easy for many to do that now…

MissMarianHalcombe · 27/08/2024 17:54

If you can’t get to a branch ring the call centre, they’ll order a replacement over the phone without changing the long card number so you can continue to use the one you have in the meantime

That's not Nationwide, that's the other banks who are closing.

I agree with pp, you have a faulty card.

Bluevelvetsofa · 27/08/2024 18:22

Nationwide is a building society and they haven’t closed branches.

Nationwide haven’t been closing branches - unless most other banks !

NoSnowdrop · 27/08/2024 18:43

Thank you all - I stand corrected.

Not all phones have NFC tech in them so it's not always an option. Plus you shouldn't have to do this just because you have a faulty card. Just get a new one
