To think it must have been her?

About a year ago I was travelling home on a Tui flight and I recognised the air steward.
My good friend got into cabin crew in her late teens/early 20s and that's when we lost touch (44 now)

Same face but older.
Same smile.
Same first name on uniform badge.

She disappeared to the other end of the plane and I said to another steward.Excuse me your colleague called Mary is her surname Smith or did it used to be? I think I know her from years ago and I'd love to sat hi.
He went off to ask and came back and said no.

Doppelganger?

It's bothered me ever since (lighthearted)

She didn't see me so it's not like she thought oh cba to speak to Princess

Maybe she doesn’t want to reconnect. If someone I knew from my teens asked if I was GenAvocado I’d play dumb and hope they left me alone. Nothing personal but it’s not a part of my life I wish to revisit.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 25/08/2024 18:05

Not friends on fb but I looked her up a few years ago and she was cabin crew then.
I saw her at the start before take off but she went to the back and stayed there. It was a Dreamliner .

I totally get that but she didn't know who it was who was asking

This could be exactly why because she doesn’t know who is asking. I used to work in a place and we were always told never give information out to anyone, eg if someone asks what day so and so is next in, shift times, it was a safety thing

Pandasnacks · 25/08/2024 18:08

She might have been worried it was someone else asking like a partners ex or something

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 25/08/2024 18:10

Maybe it was because she didn’t know who it was that she said no? Might have thought it was some crazy stalker! Or didn’t want to take the risk.

LadyKenya · 25/08/2024 18:11

Who knows what has been happening in her life since you knew her. There may be safety reasons, or it could have been someone else who looked like her. I would not have enquired about her to her colleague though.

EscapingTheseFeelings · 25/08/2024 18:12

I would assume she doesn’t want to reconnect.
There would be a passenger list somewhere, whether air stewards see that, I don’t know. She might have noticed you anyway though, and went to the back to avoid you.
Anything could have happened in her life since she last saw you. She might be the type of person who likes to leave the past in the past. If she was curious at all she would have come down to see who it was that knew her.

Startrekobsessed · 25/08/2024 18:12

You think she didn’t know who was asking because she didn’t see you when you saw her but she well could have spotted you whilst boarding or at another point. I suspect she knew and cba having some awkward chat about your lives, whilst she’s also working

wildthingsinthenight · 25/08/2024 18:16

I think itv was her but she said no because she didn't know who was asking
Also it's possible she is cautious of people knowing her old surname for reasons such as an abusive partner/marriage?

I do watch too many thriller/crime shows though...😊

Choochoo21 · 25/08/2024 18:17

It may have been a doppelgänger or she may have changed her name and didn’t want her new employees to know her previous name.

pinkspotty · 25/08/2024 18:18

I would bet she had already seen you. Don't cabin crew eyeball all passengers ??
I also would avoid anyone asking about me from my teen years / school especially when working. Sorry but I think she was likely deliberately avoiding you.

PeachRose1986 · 25/08/2024 18:19

It was probably because she didn’t know who was asking.

Holidayhell22 · 25/08/2024 18:19

Maybe it wasn’t her.
Years ago a work colleague said they had seen me on my way to work. Except it wasn’t me and they knew this because I lived in the opposite direction and drove to work. This person was walking. My colleague said the bizarre thing was she was dressed in almost identical clothes to the ones I was wearing. For example the same type and colour trousers, the same colour and style of blouse, the same boots.
She had the exact same haircut as me and was the same height and weight.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 25/08/2024 18:23

Yeah I reckon it was her and pp are right and she said no for whatever reasons as is her right. Was nice to see her though!
