Social Netball Group requests on Facebook

Has anybody seen these posts on Facebook, asking if any ladies are interested in joining a social netball club & league for all abilities and ages? Even those who have not played since school. I have responded to my local one. Have looked into it more and seen that these posts have been posted to a lot of different areas around the country. The exact wording & logo. I don't know why I think this, or indeed how they would be scamming people, but my 6th sense is telling me it's a scam.

There’s a poster about it near where I live. I’ve not looked further because I absolutely hated all sport in school.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 24/08/2024 22:19

I haven’t seen them, but have you tried Googling it? If there are posters too it feels more likely to be genuine though.

Beachcomber24 · 24/08/2024 22:22

@EmpressaurusDeiGatti yes I've googled it & found out about all the different adverts. I agree if there's posters it is more likely to be genuine. As I've only seen them on Facebook so far it makes me wary, there are so many scams on it

Yes - it's a company and I joined! If it says LY or L4Y, it's called leagues for you and is a genuine thing

spikeandbuffy24 · 24/08/2024 22:26

Like this, and the poster will have LY in their name

It's probably a commercial league, there are official England Netball leagues or commercial leagues. They're not scams, but they're there to make profit. Like the 5 a side football ones like Power Play.

Beachcomber24 · 24/08/2024 22:33

I've had an email & just saw that their website is www.youplaynetball.co.uk with a proper landline number. It does look genuine after all

Yeah that looks really similar. There should be a FB group for each area where results, wild card games etc are posted
We pay per week for the match £25 plus £8 umpire fee split between us so it's really reasonable

deepstarfish · 24/08/2024 22:39

Look into the T&C, I nearly joined one of these but the cost per week was actually very high and you were liable for the weekly costs of your whole team you were assigned to even if you had never met them before! It seems to be a franchise thing where the organiser wants to recruit enough people to make a decent income. Local one is constantly advertised. It's also just matches, no practice time so not actually ideal if you haven't played in a long time.

pearvines · 24/08/2024 22:48

It really depends how well established the league is too, ask how many teams they have (but read between the lines if you get a wishy washy answer). We were lulled into a commercial league but they struggled to recruit other teams so it was very lacklustre, the England netball league is more established where we are.

I joined my netball team through leagues for you last year I do love the community feel it provides and it is lovely back playing netball. However the management of it could definitely be better but then again I don't mind too much as it's not overly competitive so as long as your going for fun and don't mind it being bit unfair at times eg umpiring, conflicting league rules etc Id recommend it! I am glad I joined tbh!

thanksamillion · 24/08/2024 23:02

If you're interested in getting back to playing and haven't done for a while it might be worth seeing if there is a 'back to netball' course near you. Often they feed into social leagues. Like a PP says though it's worth seeing how many teams there are. Where I am one company has a monopoly and they have loads of different leagues and rate players by ability. Some others have tried to start but without the critical mass it's really hard.
