How many clothes to open the door??

Goodbookandbed · 23/08/2024 20:37

This morning a delivery man came to the front door whilst I was getting dressed. DH was on the loo so couldn’t get it. So I did. I was fully dressed on the top half, but only knickers on the bottom half. I sort of peered round the door so he couldn’t see much.

DH jokingly said that I shouldn’t have gone to the door ‘semi naked’ and now I wonder whether he’s right. For some reason I think it’d be better this way round than half dressed on the top half, if you know what I mean?

So what’s the minimum amount of clothing necessary to answer the door? Clearly I’d not wear just underwear. But a towel?? No… Maybe I need to have a standby poncho by the front door.

Shorts and tshirt fir me.

Doggymummar · 23/08/2024 20:40

No particular sense to it but my feeling is that if it was a long baggy T-shirt that covers your pant you were fine (as could just as easily have been shorts underneath), but a short fitted T-shirt with just pants is underdressed and you would have needed to add shorts as a minimum.

The pants?

Wendysfriend · 23/08/2024 20:44

Well this reminds me of the time I was living alone in an apartment block and the apartment across from me was been broken into, I rang the gardai and was heading back to bed as I had come home from work ill, I sleep naked and next thing there was huge pounding on my door, I jumped up thinking the burglars were trying to get in grabbed the nearest thing to cover me which was the mat in the tiny hallway 😳😳 and opened the door, and standing there was 3 gardai and a woman neighbour. I played it cool acted like this was a perfectly normal thing to do. I still cringe thinking about it.

Good grief, asking delivery people to drop their clothes is pushing it a bit far....

(For those who don't get it, that's a joke)

Singleandproud · 23/08/2024 20:45

I would have just called through the door that you were getting dressed and could they put it on the doorstep

FoxtrotOscarKindaDay · 23/08/2024 20:46

I'm sure delivery people have seen people in bikinis before. Outside not even in the privacy of their own homes!

Doubt they cared or really noticed.

Have answered in a towel before because "it needs signed" and shouting out the window to leave it on the doorstep didn't work on that particular delivery driver.

IceStationZebra · 23/08/2024 20:47

I’d always be fully dressed to open the door - shorts and vest top would be the absolute minimum. I’d feel uncomfortable in pyjamas!

Ha, I regularly answer the door to my lovely posties wearing a towel because they have an uncanny knack of ringing the doorbell as I am getting into or out of the shower!

Dilbertian · 23/08/2024 20:52

Don't you have a dressing gown hanging on the back of a door, ready to grab?

saltinesandcoffeecups · 23/08/2024 20:52

Well considering some people order delivery just to answer their door naked I’m thinking this was pretty tame.

Might I suggest a dressing gown for the future? Honestly when I was younger I never bothered with them (except in University walking to the shared bathroom) but rediscovered them when we got a puppy a long time ago. Made those midnight runs a lot easier. And yes by runs I mean ‘runs’ outside to take care of the other runs.

I'd shout from behind the door "THANKS, LEAVE IT ON THE MAT!"

She peered round the door - don't think she was visible below the waist.

So I'd say ok.

ZeldaFighter · 23/08/2024 20:56

I once said to my postman that he'd never seen me in my clothes before...and he blushed! I meant that I always answered the door in my dressing gown! He was an older chap!

Everyoneisdifferent · 23/08/2024 21:07

Blimey I wouldn't have opened the door in my knickers, even if the top half was fully clothed!
I have answered the door in my dressing gown but don't even like doing that.

Deadbeatex · 23/08/2024 21:18

My delivery drivers have seen me in various states of undress! I'm usually covered more than but they'd see as much as you would if I was wearing a bikini on a beach 🤷🏼‍♀️ never had anyone bat an eyelid

FumingTRex · 23/08/2024 21:21

I feel embarrassed answering the door in a full set of pyjamas. I always think the delivery people will think i am lazy 😴definitely would not answer in knickers …

diddl · 23/08/2024 21:23

I'd answer in Tshirt & pants rather than bra & shorts.

I often have easy to pull on dog walking stuff lying about anyway so it wouldn't have taken much longer to pull some bottoms on.

Or a dressing gown as a pp put.

Why?

I'm in my own house, I'm not flashing my tits or fanny, why aren't knickers on bottom half appropriate? It's the postman fgs!

Note - I once answered the door to Jehovah's with a nappy-less baby who I was in the middle of changing. I've also answered the door mid-breast-feed. It's my home.

I always put on my dressing gown to answer the door if I'm in night clothes or not fully dressed.

Many delivery drivers and neighbours have seen me in my dressing gown. I'd rather that than them all seeing me in my pants.

OldTinHat · 23/08/2024 21:31

I opened the door wearing nothing but a dressing gown.

I hadn't noticed there was a moth hole and my nipple was poking out...!
