Do I declare a prior health insurance cover

YABU you need to declare the company cover
YANBU you don’t need to declare the company cover

My husband’s company provides health insurance for him and our immediate family. This is being discontinued. I want to get my own policy (for me alone) and have been asked by the search bot ‘do you have an existing health insurance policy’ - the inference is whether you’re looking to start a new policy or transfer from another provider. Do I reply Y or N? I have been covered by a policy but I’ve never had my own policy if that makes sense and I’m not looking to transfer (just want to start something under my own terms).

Insurers don't like it if you duplicate cover. Your new insurer would want to know if you were covered by another company.

You answer yes,

It’s also likely to give you a lower premimum.

I don't know about the UK, but in Ireland it is much cheaper to carry over a health policy. It also makes any pre-existing conditions much easier to deal with.
