Worried just seen a potential burgular?

I live on a new build estate, the houses up to mine and across are finished but theyre still building past mine and it's fenced off. Just seen a mid teen age guy on his own walk past looking round. Got the gates then walked back, looking up at mine and others top windows and down drive ways. aibu to think this could be a potential burgular scoping before night comes? Often see a few people looking to see what it's like on the estate, potential buyers maybe but he was 100percent not old enough to buy a house

Yep. I'd be suspicious too.

xyz111 · 21/08/2024 19:13

Could be, but I imagine he was more scoping out what could be stolen from the building site.

Pandasnacks · 21/08/2024 19:14

He could be dodgy, or he could be scoping out the area because he or his family are thinking of buying there. I'd be vigilant just incase but try not to worry

Foxoo · 21/08/2024 19:15

Thanks. He just didn't seem to be at the gate for long to look at the other houses being built, maybe 30 seconds or so then he walked back looking at windows, cars on drives etc

Could be anything.

Could be looking for a lost dog/cat.

TheFormidableMrsC · 21/08/2024 19:17

I'd go out and say "can I help you, are you lost?".

Foxoo · 21/08/2024 22:06

I can now actually hear very loud noises on the building site, banging, knocking, like things are being moved around...

Ring the police say you're concerned for their safety

Genevieva · 21/08/2024 22:08

Do you have a powerful torch you can shine out of a window at them?

Foxoo · 21/08/2024 22:08

If people were stealing what would they be taking? I don't know what this noise is, just started in the last 5 minutes, sounds like grinding, knocking, banging?

SunQueen24 · 21/08/2024 22:09

Anything that's not nailed down ..... I would guess copper piping for a start.

hairbearbaby · 21/08/2024 22:13

Copper, electrical cable, building supplies, tools that tradesmen have left on site.

The noise may be them cutting the lock on the gate.

Definitely sounded like it was and then the gate being moved and banging around. There is flood lights, can't see anything currently. Noise was very loud and right next to the house, don't know what else it could have been

BiscuityBoyle · 21/08/2024 22:18

I’d call the police and tell them what you’ve told us.

Boidont · 21/08/2024 22:22

Def call the police at this point

britespark1 · 21/08/2024 22:23

OP we had this - the builders compound was burgled and then so were we not long after. Definitely report!

Lavender14 · 21/08/2024 22:32

I'd report it if you're worried but it may not necessarily be theft. I work with young people who would scope out places like that because they want to do parkour and don't realise the trouble they could get in for trespassing. Or he could have just moved in and was being nosey and it's unrelated to what you're hearing now.

Drinkandthink · 21/08/2024 22:46

We live on a new build estate and lived near the remaining building site for 3 years. It got broken into a lot. In the end they had some pretty heavy duty cameras and alarms.

I'd call the police.

HateMyNewJobSoMuch · 21/08/2024 22:50

I moved into my new build estate first. New yet unoccupied houses got broken into as builders kept their tools there. Worth thousands. They thought it had to be someone they worked with as no forced-entry.

Foxoo · 22/08/2024 00:03

Couldn't see anything and it went quiet. Police helicopter seems to be circling the area though. Its made me feel anxious

Ban the young!!!!!!

How fucking dare they be youthful

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 22/08/2024 00:09

I live on a private close of 5 houses, if I see anyone new I always ‘greet’ them with a hello (whilst the cctv records them). We’ve had a few people that have looked dodgy, you need to lorn your window and ‘introduce’ yourself.

Foxoo · 22/08/2024 00:10

I am very rural, not much around really. It's also a new road, no through zone or access to any other streets so seemed strange
