What's he up to?

AIBU to think the only explanation is affair? Boyfriend and I live together, 1 child. We all went out in his car the other day and he has work uniform in his boot and mouthwash, toothpaste and deodorant in the glove box. Anyone got any other reasons why other than an affair?

I’ve never dated a man or had a male family member do that.

Are there periods of time unaccounted for? Lots of late nights at the office?

Possibly, he works long hours, so I'm never certain when he should be home.

Could he be a secret smoker and uses these items to disguise the smell on his breath and clothes?

Creakycroaky · 21/08/2024 18:01

I have deodorant in my car in case I’m out and about with work and get hot and sweaty - I don’t want to go and meet a colleague and be smelly. I also have gum in the car for this reason - if I eat a spicy lunch I don’t want to smell afterwards, it’s unprofessional. I think you’re reading way too much into it.

Does his job involve meeting with people? Eg wants to present fresh & smelling ok?

AsanteSana · 21/08/2024 18:02

Not sure of the relevance of work uniform in the boot - cannot quite see how it points to an affair?

LocalHobo · 21/08/2024 18:03

This is standard kit pre meetings for me.

Deliaskis · 21/08/2024 18:03

Totally depends what job he does or what his general routine is. If he goes from gym to office grabbing breakfast along the way, or if he uses his car for business and drives a long distance to a meeting, or often goes out to social events straight from work, then it's perfectly reasonable to have these things in the car.

Hiddenmnetter · 21/08/2024 18:04

I keep spare uniform/toothbrush etc at work, but that’s what my locker is for. Not sure about in the car. If I didn’t have a locker I would keep it in the car. I sometimes have to sleep at work, and it’s nice to have fresh clothes to change into.

StMarieforme · 21/08/2024 18:10

He works long hours, it's been 25-30 degrees, and you're wondering why he has spare uniform, deodorant etc?

He's, erm, clean?

JustFrustrated · 21/08/2024 18:17

All standard stuff in mine and my male colleagues cars 🤷🏼‍♀️

Catza · 21/08/2024 18:20

Dare I suggest that if you manage to infer an affair from hygiene products in his car, your relationship is probably a bad idea for both of you.
Current crap in my car - toothbrush, toothpaste, a box with two wine glasses, a swim suit, a bathroom towel, three spare chargers, a dahlia bulb, 3 sets of work uniform, hiking boots and half a case of ginger beers. What do you make of this?

KreedKafer · 21/08/2024 18:21

This seems perfectly normal and reasonable to me. I keep deodorant and mouthwash in my locker at work.

Spotlightt · 21/08/2024 18:26

Perfectly normal to want to be fresh and smelling nice. Ridiculous to immediately say he's having an affair. Why would he have let you see them if it's a secret.

UnhappyAndYouKnowIt · 21/08/2024 18:26

I keep breath fresheners, floss, deodorant, perfume, nail clippers and a comb in my car 🤷‍♀️. I have for years. Same in my desk drawer.

Yes I don't understand why you immediately think " affair" when you found these.
Is there some other reason you are suspicious of him?

Terrysnotmine · 21/08/2024 18:36

He works in a shop, so does customer face. No gym. I think its just because after 15 years together it's a new thing, hence me immediately jumping to affair. But as many of you have said you do the same. Thanks all

I do this and have a lot more stuff. Tweezers, plasters, hairbrush, nail scissors, etc. Sometimes I'm tired in the mornings and forget, sometimes I want to freshen up during the day.

zeibesaffron · 21/08/2024 18:42

I have deodorant, spray, wipes, spare clothes and mouthwash in my car boot - just in case I need to freshen up before a meeting?
