Call cleaner out or no?

sunseaandsoundingoff · 21/08/2024 10:37

Our cleaner has been increasingly flaky over the last couple of months - not showing up, saying she'll reschedule, not showing up to the rescheduled time/day that she picked etc. She has maybe been once or twice in that time (supposed to be a weekly clean).

We paid a bulk block of hours upfront back when she was reliable (mostly to cut down admin for us as we're so busy). Things have got so bad with her now that we asked her to refund the rest of the money, about £300.

She's been saying for a couple of weeks now that she'll refund, but hasn't sent the money. Every couple of days it's, "I'll do it tonight," "I'll do it over the weekend," etc.

Yesterday I was a bit more firm saying we'd have to take legal action. I got a message from her via her business page this morning saying she was in hospital and she'd do it when she got back.

Unfortunately for her, she shares her business page in local groups (how I found her) from her personal FB account, so I already knew her personal profile. Her personal profile has her Facebook Stories public, so I can see that at around the same time she sent me a message saying she was in hospital, she posted a selfie of herself in bed, in what is obviously her own bed in her bedroom.

Should I call her out on it, or should I just go along with the story?

YABU = don't call her out, it might be an old pic

YANBU = call her out, she's lying

Sorry - i would call her out on it - she just doesn't want to pay you back!!

SaintHonoria · 21/08/2024 10:49

Don't bother to call her out on it. Take screenshots of everything and just message her saying that if the money isn't repaid in 24 hours you're taking her to the small claims court.

Any chance she might have been sent home between posts?

if not I'd screen shot & send her a personal message. 'Sorry to hear you're not well, glad to see you're home though? Please send my money today as I'd hate to have to go to the small claims court.'

Then I'd call a locksmith. Unless it's a security key she has that can't be cut from & id tell her she needs to arranged it to be dropped off to me today. (She can use a courtier/taxi) if she doesn't have someone who can do it. I wouldn't want her having access to my house. But if you WFH she might not have one anyway.

Sorry I'd screen shot the photo of her at home & forward it with the message

I don't think so, she's never mentioned hospital or any illnesses before, but she has used a bunch of different reasons/excuses, like her dad needing care and the carer not showing up, but then saying it was all sorted, but then not showing up again.

No evidence on her FB of dad or references to anything related to that or health, but maybe it's a privacy thing.

I’d take the photos for your evidence but I’d also tell her you’re now pursuing her in the small claims court after giving her a reasonable amount of time to refund you .

Her name doesn't begin with L, does it?! I had one just like this, horror stories about her galore.

Spotlightt · 21/08/2024 11:15

Are you sure she's not in a hospital bed? Private hospital etc? However, if she can take selfish she can do a quick bank transfer.

No, but honestly wouldn't surprise me sadly.

It looks like a bedroom at home, but yeah I'm tired of different excuses at this point.

Give her to the end of the week to refund or you will review her services honestly online...

Nonononoway · 21/08/2024 15:54

Post on her face book page warn others.
She’s not going to repay you

sunseaandsoundingoff · 21/08/2024 23:31

As predicted she hasn't paid (gave her till 10pm tonight).

Have submitted it to the small claims court so we'll see what happens.
