Worried about what just happened

Struggling to sleep tonight. Only just managed to get to sleep just after 3pm. I woke up around 20 minutes and for about 5 minutes felt really weird and dizzy inside my head. I was laid down with my eyes closed but felt everything spin. Worried this is something serious or could it just be tiredness

Insomnia is not usually a symptom of anything other than insomnia, in my experience.

Sounds like vertigo

Zanatdy · 21/08/2024 05:53

It might be vertigo. I’ve got that and it’s flared up recently. I need to sit on the edge of the bed when I wake up, but even then I walk like I’ve on a ship and often go dizzy.

Have you taken your temperature? When this happened to me I had a very high temp.

I had gone to bed feeling absolutely fine and woke in the early hours confused and dizzy. I didn't know I had a temp until a few hours later as I just lay there unable to function.

I’m having a rotten nights sleep too….basically I’m getting very little so you have my sympathies!

This sounds to me like vertigo which gives a very distinctive, spinning and dizzy feeling: Have you ever had it before?

Or it could be anxiety? Lack of sleep can do funny things to us and we are at our lowest ebb in the middle of the night.

Have you been eating properly?

This happens to me randomly when my blood sugar is low.

Tbh I'd be looking into why you couldn't fall sleep.

dobblevit · 21/08/2024 06:31

I wouldn't worry unless it happens again then I'd think I was probably coming down with something

Sounds like Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) – where specific head movements cause vertigo

It's vertigo

Vic6 · 21/08/2024 06:56

I had extremely similar a few weeks ago. I also wasn’t sleeping well, awake very early. Turned over in bed and felt like the room was spinning. Came on suddenly. Felt ‘off’ throughout the day, the vertigo was worse when I leaned over or lay down for some reason but it wasn’t debilitating, I just took it easy for a few days and it’s completely gone now.

Hope you’re ok OP and it’s only temporary.

Vic6 · 21/08/2024 06:57

*hope it’s only temporary but see your GP if you’re worried.

Vertigo is very easily treated doing Epley Manoeuvre. YouTube has 2 examples, I have done both and it cured me instantly.

Thanks I’ll check it out. I’ve had it a lot on and off
