To think I would have heard by now?

If I was first choice after an interview. They were interviewing the final candidate yesterday but I haven't heard anything yet either way.

It depends how things work at the employer’s end but in my workplace you wouldn’t have heard yet either way. It’s not one person who does every interview where I work so we conduct all interviews and then once they are all concluded all of the interviewers have a meeting to discuss all candidates and decide on a successful one/s. We all have our own jobs so it could easily be a week or more, depending on how busy we are, before we manage to find a slot where we are all free to have that meeting.
