to be worried about 'Frank's sign'?

I have just noticed diagonal lines in both ear lobes. They're quite prominent.

Googled it and it's called Frank's Sign - warning of heart disease or diabetes.

I'm mid-40s, not diabetic, about half a stone over weight, but have not had any heart problems before.

Should I be worried, do you think?

If you're worried about it see if you can speak to your gp. A lot of them have consults and you could sent a photo of your ear and write out what you've written here so they know what you are worried about.

I'd never ever heard of this.
Or really noticed any one with it.
I see , when I googled it, they recommend seeking a medical checkup for Cardio vascular disease. So you would probably be sensible to do that.
I did see a " notable people " list of those who have it include Dick van dyke who is 98 and various others of a good age, so that is encouraging anyway.

Yeah, it's not a reliable indicator in people over 40. The original study was on cadavers and there was a correlation between Frank's sign and people who died of coronary artery disease under 40. Trials since have had mixed results and it's less useful as a precitor of heart disease than the usual things like smoking, high blood pressure etc.

I have it - as did my dad who lived to almost 90 and died of cancer - with a very healthy heart! So I'm not worried.

Thanks for all of the replies.

I smoked in my twenties, but haven't since then (now mid-forties)

I'll call the GP tomorrow.

Thanks

Don’t worry . They will just suggest a well woman check . BP cholesterol etc. non urgent.

Missymoo100 · 30/08/2024 22:11

out of curiosity wondered what your gp said about it? I noticed a crease in one of my ear lobes a few weeks ago and keep worrying about it since I heard of this.

I’ve got very distinct Frank’s Signs.

I’m type 2 diabetic and have a pacemaker. On the other hand, I’ve made it to 80.

What was the outcome of this?
