I don’t think I’m depressed but I’m so bored.

I’m 42. 2 primary age kids. Divorced a couple of years ago. Nice new house. I have a good professional job. Money is a bit tight but I’m managing. Good friends. Gym regularly. Other hobbies. Would like a relationship but can’t bring myself to date.

Basically things are fine. But I’m really struggling to fine real enjoyment from anything.

Please help! I don’t like feeling this way.

I'm the same, I can't be bothered to date.
Not sure if the lack of romance in my life is what's making me feel a bit meh but I prefer that to the drama

I would suggest a visit to mental health specialist. What you describing are symptoms of depression

MrsApplepants · 20/08/2024 17:18

I’m similar. On paper everything is great. But I’m bored to tears.

Thank you. It helps to know I’m not alone. I wonder then if it could be depression. Or maybe I want a relationship.

Could definitely be depression. Loss of enjoyment is often a good indicator and is subsequently followed by loss of motivation to do things.

Relationship is not a cure for depression symptoms.

I felt like you op years ago.
It was like living but nothing there didnt want to date but wanted sex.

Love traveling meet people having alot of one nighters.
For me i just needed to get out there and do the things that are frowned up on lol.

Its what i needed lol.
I was told i was just down and a bit depressed but i wasent.
Then got told i was lonely and i should maybe start dating but i didnt want a relationship i was happy single still is.
It was wanting to be a bit crazy and do all the thing that i was never to do or had done.
So started to have my own adventures.
ooohh let me start with italian i met in barcelona or the party i got invited to when i was at bar in spain or the chinese hunk that i met while bathing at a hotel pool.
Then the times ive had with my mini breaks and went on a speed boat done and a parachute jump i done in my home town.
I just wanted to live and be wild to do things that i wanted and not just work home life plotting along with the crowd i just wasnt living for me now i am.
Ive got plenty of stories to tell in my old age but years left before then.
Im always up to something lol.
And i couldent care less what anyone says or wants to call me.
My sister is the same now after a 20 years of a awful relationship shes now doing what she wants we are of to australia in december got to know what they are really like😂.
Just today i hung upside down from a tree branch while sister took a pic lol.
Im childish i know.
Op just live without caring what others think or say.
Start your adventures lifes to short you are not just a mum their is you as well go have some fun.

If the day to day is very predictable, as it is for modt of us, then I don't think this indicates depression

ILiveInSalemsLot · 20/08/2024 19:24

Book places to go. I know you said money is tight but can you have at least a tiny budget for petrol/train tickets?
You don't have to go far for adventure and sometimes just exploring a new area can lift the spirits. Nature is free and can shift your mood.
Are you mentally stimulated at work? If not, then get learning. It can be anything you're interested in, however random. Read a book about it. Find a free course.
Just do more.
