Can/Has scuba diving exacerbated your tinnitus?

Second post of the day!

I'm thinking about doing a trial scuba dive. Just to see if I like it. I have tinnitus. Is it possible/likely it could make it worse?

Just wondering about people's experiences.

Not had experience with tinnitus myself, but I have had dental pain when scuba diving at times (over 300 dives and only had pain a handful of times), but it has definitely highlighted when I’ve had a problem - resulting in a root canal in Malaysia!
I know that scuba diving can cause (usually temporary) tinnitus when having difficulty equalising and doing so too hard, but as for further aggravating existing tinnitus I’m afraid I don’t know.
Sorry, I know not really what you asked, but just wanted to give a little bump for you! I hope you can give it a try because it’s amazing!

Have tinnitus (intermittent), have done over 500 dives, haven't noticed any correlation.

Normal advice, don't dive with blocked sinuses to ensure that you can equalise, don't take decongestants to clear sinuses if they're not naturally clear, as both of these things can cause other ear difficulties, but no correlation with tinnitus that I can see, no.

I can’t see why tinnitus would prevent you diving but it’s worth contacting your intended instructor or organisation to check that they will be happy to take you first so you don’t have a wasted trip. Have a look at the medical forms you’d be asked to sign as they tend to be quite conservative and they might ask you to get medical clearing first. The PADI forms are easily available online so I presume ones from other organisations will be too.
