Dog sitting and he has fleas 🫣

Frauhubert · 19/08/2024 15:23

I agreed to dog sit for a week and was given dog food plus allergy pills ‘for itchy skin conditions’. Dog has been scratching since he arrived yesterday but was told it’s because of allergy.
this morning i thought i saw a jumpy little insect on my floor but then thought I must have imagined 🫣
nope, just now saw 2 crawling dark ‘incescts’ near his belly. He is a tiny but hairy dog. Please tell me what to do😥 I am not an experienced dog person. Owner hasn’t yet replied as she is in a different time zone.

I'd be so angry. The fleas will now be in your carpet and you'll need to treat not only the dog but your entire house.
Get the owner to pay.

Bath him ASAP. A lot of fleas will drown.. Then get to Pets at home for Indorex.. About 15 pound. Keep receipt for your mate. Who isn't your mate really...

@iamtryinghq it’s a favour for an acquaintance… I met the dog a few times and he is lovely and sweet, I thought i was doing a good dead and spending some nice time with a dog also for my own benefit 🫣

That spray is for your home. Wash all soft furnishings on a hot wash. Best flea treatment for the ddog is from a vet. Can you contain it a bit until it goes home? Or take it to the vet and claim the lot back from your non friend?

SauvignonBlonk · 19/08/2024 15:33

Yes to the Indorex - hoover before you use it.
Ideally you need to treat the dog too but you need to know when it last had flea treatment. I’d probably bathe in flea shampoo stuff if you can’t get hold of owner.

Fairy is a good flea killer.. The surfactant suffocates the fleas. Nit comb also works if ddog will stand in the bath patiently....

Thank you all! this is all more than I have bargained for

@iamtryinghq you could say that it was 100% being clueless on my part. My mum has a dog and I see them often so probably that has clouded my judgement.
