Would you eat? Frozen fresh chicken question

Fresh whole chicken use by end June.
Put in freezer before use by date.
Instructions state it can be frozen and eaten within one month. (End July)

Defrosted yesterday before realising it should have been eaten within one month.

Would you still cook and eat today? Nearly two months after freezing????

It will be absolutely fine.

dementedpixie · 18/08/2024 17:43

Quality may be affected but should be fine to cook and eat

PurpleFruit1 · 18/08/2024 17:44

Yes I agree it will be absolutely fine. Guidelines say chicken can stay frozen for up to a year without any issues. As long as no freezer burn or anything then it’s fine

Tagyoureit · 18/08/2024 17:51

It's fine.

soupfiend · 18/08/2024 17:52

Yes of course its fine

ivyi · 18/08/2024 17:54

Thanks I'll go for it then. Just wonder why it only allows a month if it will be ok anyway.

Completely fine. If freezer is functional food can be safely frozen indefinitely. Freezer burn is a possibility.

It will be a quality thing rather than a safety issue. Chicken can last much longer than a month in the freezer, the shop is just covering themselves so they don't have refund chicken with a poor taste or texture after prolonged freezing.

They want you to throw it away.

Which is ridiculous if you understand how a freezer works, it'll be fine in a year let alone a month.

Always amazes me that people actually take notice of stuff like this, I shove stuff in the freezer and just use it whenever-never take any notice of the original use by date.

Cantbebotheredwithausername · 18/08/2024 19:00

Yeah, perfectly fine to cook and eat. I'd absolutely go for it.
