Possible kidney infection?

I've had an on/off UTI for just under 3 weeks now (confirmed by pharmacist dipping my urine and found traces of infection and blood. I stupidly tried to manage initially by just drinking lots of water because I have a fear of taking medication - symptoms disappeared for a few days so I thought I'd successfully got rid of it, then they came back. I decided earlier this week to take the medication I was given, symptoms disappeared within 2 days so I stopped. However this morning symptoms are back again. So I am now taking the rest of the medication. However, I now have pink tinged urine (I assume blood?), lower back pain on and off (mild and not excruciating), and still feel like I am peeing glass. I am shivering on and off and feel very fatigued. Also nauseous and no appetite. Partner wants me to go to a&e in case it's now a kidney infection, but I am wanting to stay home as need to be comfortable (which I am lying in bed) and really don't need to spend my afternoon sitting in a&e for hours. I want to finish the course of antibiotics and see if it helps first. I'm unsure why I'm posting. Mainly to see if my symptoms sound serious enough to possibly be a kidney infection or could it just be the UTI still?? I don't want to waste anyone's time at a&e.

You probably have a kidney infection you need to finish the course of antibiotics not stop and start. Call 111 today they might give you an out of hours appointment if not wait and phone your gp on Monday drink loads and see if you can get a hold of cranberry juice.

Yeah definitely one for 111/OOH

Possible kidney infection. 111 or out of hours walk in surgery for appointment as you might need different antibiotics or a longer course

Get it checked out. Some medications for UTIs can discolour the urine, but better safe than sorry. Also, always finish a course of antibiotics, you can’t just stop it when symptoms get better.

Thanks everyone. I'll give 111 a call and see what they advise. I'm also due on my period and tend to get lower back pain with that so it's hard to differentiate. But the pink tinged urine probably isn't a good sign is it😕

Please do get checked. I'm three weeks out of a kidney infection and still feel exhausted and a bit unwell. I tried more natural methods of clearing infection without result. Antibiotics were what was needed to stop infection from becoming worse.

I hope you feel better soon Flowers
