Are so damn rude?!
It seems like some people here just honestly hate everything and think it's OK to be awful!

Any context? Or have you only been reading the more contentious AIBU threads?

vodkaredbullgirl · 16/08/2024 15:54

Because they can.

ByCupidStunt · 16/08/2024 15:55

We've been infiltrated by incels, somewhat.

You can spot them a mile off in the "but men get murdered too" threads. It's not just the ones saying that who are incels, but the ones answering them and derailing the threads.

cappycap · 16/08/2024 15:57

I think because it's so anonymous here.

In real life, the majority of us would hold back being rude to someone's face and rein our thoughts in if they were to be offensive.

On here, no one knows who's behind the username and I guess it gives people the Dutch courage to speak to people how they wouldn't in real life.

thursdaymurderclub · 16/08/2024 15:57

because they can! its social media, they hide behind a screen and a keyboard. i would assume that some are actually just as mean in the real world, others do it for entertainment.

Greyrockin · 16/08/2024 15:59

I blame the gutter press who keep picking up threads and using them as 'news' - lots of their readers have joined MN

whyNotaNice · 16/08/2024 16:02

because people are what they are just like in real life. Some people do get high by putting others down. Look at the school gate cliques.

oh my goodness.

Why from mothers/parents advice now people without any familial ties post on here about the most random topics of them all

Sheelanogig · 16/08/2024 16:05

There's some utter tossers on here. Some people just looking to be contrary.

But there's also loads of decent people giving support, good ideas, sharing stuff and making me giggle.

Some of those threads are likely started by journalists though…

because it makes them feel superior or they want to encourage a pile on by hovering over the new post threads so they can get right in there first and be an arse about it all and hopefully set the tone so everyone else piles on the OP too. But I guess loads of people will just say they're just saying it how it is. It's like all the LTB replies where everyone says they'd do this or that but in real life ...would they fuck! or they ones where they say 'why do you even care OP' when they'd totally care too. the worst and most abusive and gaslighting reply that I'd actually like to see Mumsnet ban is "are you ok OP?" when it's meant in such a horrible way. (not when it's genuinely caring'. The best of the best humans are on mumsnet, there are genuinely the most incredible people on here. but there are some truly horrible people too and sometimes i wonder how this site even survives when people can't post anything for fear of being literally torn to shreds. but the good souls make it worthwhile. they really do.

gardenmusic · 16/08/2024 16:26

I am probably rude.
I hate it when someone is at the end of their rope, distressed over the way they are being treated by some bottom (I am being polite) and someone comes on to blame them.
The male apologists really make me angry - 'Really not his fault he punched his Granny', 'Your husband deserves as many outings as he likes with his female friends', and I really, really dislike the goads and 'alternatives' who just have to disrupt a thread by causing an argument when the poster is getting far too much attention for their liking.
I always promise myself I won't give them air by hitting back. Haven't suceeeded yet.

Charlieeeeee · 16/08/2024 16:27

So many dickheads on here.

thank you for this. I was unaware and i'll be switched on for this in the future. Really helpful, I feel a bit daft not knowing that, but I didn't.

MrsPinkSky · 16/08/2024 16:29

People are ruder on MN because they can name change and become 'nice' again.

On forums where NC-ing isn't allowed, people have to be more polite or they'll find no-one wants to talk to them/reply to their threads.

I'm probably rude too by that standard but i think you're just defending people as opposed to attacking an OP. i like that you do what you!

I’ve been called rude, misogynistic, abrasive…

But there’s nothing I’d say on here that I wouldn’t say to someone’s face.

We are all “allowed” to have differing perspectives, but you might second guess that based on some responses on here.
