To think I'm about to be made redundant?

My role has been semi redundant from day 1, and they've shifted my responsibilities day in and day out ever since I started.

This week my manager mentioned there would be some shuffling but that our team wouldn't be affected.

However, today I asked to get my new business card to be activated (everybody else's were getting activated) and the finance lady asked me that I should ask my manager for the reason why she won't be able to do it.

So AIBU to think that my days are finally counted?

It does sound ominous, have you asked your manager?

Yes and a colleague. No reply yet from either of them.

I think it could be that you are about to be made redundant. Not very nice to in a way find out indirectly.

If it is the case, hope you get a new job very soon.

Yeah I think that's unfortunately the most reasonable explanation. I had my 1:1 on Tuesday, so I'm sure he knew by then. Would have liked a heads up (as I only have 1 weeks notice).

Yeah - I found out by not being included in the building move..... that was nice

K0OLA1D · 15/08/2024 17:38

Sorry OP. Doesn't sound like good news. Very shit of them to not let you know on Tuesday if it really is the case

How long have you been working there?

I feel for you. I was made redundant recently, my boss was in Pacific timezone and waited until 9.30pm Friday UK time to email me the notice letter. Coward!

DancefloorAcrobatics · 15/08/2024 17:57

Sorry to hear that you'll be made redundant- it sucks! Ive been there several times, one was 2 weeks before Christmas!

Yeah I've been made redundant twice before. One on the day I exchanged contracts! The other one I was being investigated for leukemia.

Their loss!

(Honestly I wanted to leave, so it wasn't all bad)

I want to leave too, but after I've found somewhere to go. I'm technically negotiating with another company but it's been dragging on for weeks and weeks.
I'm still worried because I know how much harder it is to look for a job when unemployed.

I think they're mostly in hospitality in my area, nothing against it, but have zero experience! Admin would be the closest I could but I don't think it's as common over here.

Anywho, it turned out to be an admin error!
