to want to rehome the spiders

What does everyone here do when they find house spiders at home? I used to catch them and put them outside but have just realised that they likely end up dead outside. We get quite a few spiders inside and some of them I just let stay where they are (there's one in the bathroom I'm quite fond of) but don't love leaving them in the bedroom or wardrobe especially if they're large. I found one in the wardrobe yesterday and rehoused it to a storage room instead of putting it outside and DH thinks I've lost the plot.. AIBU to rehome the spiders instead of putting them outside? Am I going to end up with a storage room full of spiders?

I just clean the webs away. They usually hide when I do that.

Anything bigger than a money spider dies immediately. Putting them out kills them anyway so I just make it quick. Cellar spiders are allowed to remain as long as they aren't massive and pull their weight eating the big buggers.

I think they find their way inside. I witnessed a couple getting in through vents.
I prefer not to touch them at all. There is one just above my head at the conservatory (my office) and we have an understanding that it should stay there and not attempt to move. It does a good job at catching stray flies but I don't want a closer encounter with it.

I leave them but youngest DD absolutely hates them (even though I’ve tried to encourage her to see them as helpful and harmless)

If she’s having a fit of the vapours then I move them either in a cupped hand or container

I did, however, have to stage a huge evacuation process when I found a mum spider and loads of little babies surrounding her suspended by webs behind the door of the bathroom
We’d been away and came home to these tiny satellites orbiting their leggy mother

I found it pretty cool but, alas, I had to chuck them in the shed

Not all spiders die when you put them outside - being outside is how they spread house to house in the first place.
If you leave them inside they might get eaten by another spider.

I put them all in the garage

OlympicBlue · 15/08/2024 10:31

They die here.

I put outside. They take their chances. Plenty of places to hide and a mild climate. I think this crap about them dying outside is nonsense, unless it's full on winter of course.

We have clothes moths, spiders are very welcome here if they eat the little buggers. And I've always been fond of spiders, so I've generally let them be.
