Help me figure this one out

I am on a trip with some friends. For complicated reasons I ended up sharing a bed with one of my friends. She has been tossing and turning all night. Worried it was me keeping her awake, I asked her what was up. She said she was too hot under the duvet and too cold under the sheet so couldn't sleep. I said ahhh, like Goldilocks.

How would you interpret the intention of my comment

OP posts:
Doggymummar · 15/08/2024 08:33

That she is like Goldilocks, never satisfied

WearsblackLoveschocolateAvoidspeople · 15/08/2024 08:33

That she's trying to find that sweet spot - Not too hot, not too cold.....just right

LittleMG · 15/08/2024 08:34

Oh dear OP whose been sleeping in MY BED

Positivenancy · 15/08/2024 08:34

That she needs to find her “just right” the sweet spot…

FOJN · 15/08/2024 08:34

That the bedding wasn't providing the "just right" kind of warmth.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 15/08/2024 08:34

If it was said in a friendly way I'd just take that at face value - no offence taken.

TheDuck2018 · 15/08/2024 08:35

That eventually she'd find the right place to sleep....too hot underneath, too cold on top so eventually be half in, half out and it will be just right....that's what I have to do.

Can't see there was anything innocuous in your comment....has she took the hump or something?

Definitely this!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 15/08/2024 08:36

She needs some porridge to help her sleep.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 15/08/2024 08:36

Goldilocks is the ‘baddy’ of the story so I’d think you were making a bit of a dig, suggesting you think she’s being a bit of a Princess or that she is someone who is never satisfied.

@Taytoface

me too last night, quite a lot of nights actually. I'd say a menopausal Goldilocks!!

so long as you said it nicely, with some sympathy, you did nothing wrong, but if you snapped 'like fucking Goldilocks' - with an eye roll....

if she's upset/annoyed put it down to sleep deprivation & leave her to find her equilibrium 🤷🏻‍♀️

Createausername1970 · 15/08/2024 08:39

I would take it as a light-hearted comment, a reference to Goldilocks who said "this bed is too hard, this bed is too soft" and "this porridge is too hot, this porridge is too cold" etc. Eventually she finds the right one.

Has she taken it the wrong way? But I am not sure how you can take it the wrong way?

Unless there is porn star called Goldilocks? Or similar.

Taytoface · 15/08/2024 08:43

She has totally taken offence. Said I was taking the piss. Won't accept I wasn't.

Going to be an awkward few days

Theimpossiblegirl · 15/08/2024 08:46

Some people will take offence at anything.

She's probably tired and possibly peri / menopausal. I'd sleep on the sofa tonight.

andfinallyhereweare · 15/08/2024 08:48

I’d crack up if a friend said that. The old mumsnet line of “she sounds like hard work”

TheDuck2018 · 15/08/2024 08:50

Leave her to get on with it, she's being ridiculous!

rainbowstardrops · 15/08/2024 08:50

She's taken offence to you comparing her to Goldilocks because things weren't 'just right'. Bloody hell, you're going to have a fun trip!!!

Ffs22 · 15/08/2024 08:54

She was keeping you awake- she should be apologising to you.
She sounds very sensitive, how old are you? Is there really no other option for sleeping arrangement like the sofa? I’d be going out and buying an airbed if not.
Get her some porridge for breakfast , hopefully she’ll see the funny side.
