To think it's not such a big deal?

I've been interviewing at a company. Long story short we're at offer stage but I still don't know what the salary would be (they're working on it).

When I had my first interview I gave them a lower salary in a previous job (which since then I regretted). Today I rounded that salary up, and also updated my current salary (because they added an extra bonus, which I added to my base instead of explaining all sorts of different bonuses).

They've queried both back... The difference is fairly minimal (not even £8k) and I'm aware that they'll most likely pay me less than the one I over inflated.

I hope I haven't messed this up just because there's been zero transparency on their end of what's their actual budget. Rant over.

If they think you’ve fudged the truth could be a big deal, sorry.

The salary itself wouldn’t be a problem, but a hint that you’re dishonest might be.

Depending on your salary £8k is a big annual difference!

Why?

I think I'd be concerned as an employer if you were inflating numbers now or being a bit disingenuous.

I actually can't remember! They always made a big deal that they couldn't afford me, so thought that would make me look more "approachable".

I originally said £61k, when in reality it was £62k + £1k + 10% bonus .

I only inflated an older salary, my current salary DID increase in the meantime. But instead of explaining the different bonus structures, I added it to my base.

Again, of they had actually offered me something today, instead of asking me again a few weeks later, this wouldn't have happened.
