Builders on new build estate

Builders come around 7:00am, cars and vans driving too fast through a small road, singing loud, arguing, swearing, music playing, slamming car doors. I think they’re louder than the actual building works. AIBU to complain to site manager? I work nights so getting no sleep.

They’ve been playing bad music loud and singing and whistling loud for the past 45 minutes

Yes complain to the site manager. I work in Construction and complaints are recorded and included in the monthly progress reports so they do have a responsibility to deal with them.

It is a early, complain and ask for them to tone it down. Some sites don't allow music because it annoys neighbours.

You moved to a new build and are now surprised about building noise? 😅

Didn't take long for someone to jump right on the OP

  1. She doesn't say it's a new build.
  2. She's not complaining about noise in general / she's upset about specific, early, avoidable noise,

Hope your day gets better @Harrumphhhh

It's not the building noise op is complaining about, it's the workers who are being very loud driving in and then unnecessary noise whilst working early in the morning.

Ilovegoldies · 13/08/2024 08:30

They shouldn't start before 8am. Ring the Environmental Health department

Bluevelvetsofa · 13/08/2024 08:52

I complained about the language from builders across the road. I went to the sales office and they obviously spoke to the site manager and it stopped. It wasn’t that early in the morning though.

OP, you could check whether the project is part of the Considerate Constructors scheme here - under "For the public - see all registered sites"
https://www.considerateconstructors.com/

Even if not, you could point them to the Code of Considerate Practice and as that they consider the neighbours and follow its guidelines.

If you work nights you are going to be disturbed throughout the day though
I get it I used to be a nurse and worked regular nights ,but you can't stopped people going around their regular rotines.

Its part of a site managers job to deal with complaints about their workers.

I once witnessed a builder in a dumpy truck take a short cut over a green area when he could very easily have just taken the road. He saved about 2 mins doing this. His dumpy truck left huge tyre tracks/ruts in the green.

I took a photo of the green and marched up to the site office and showed him the damage to the green. It would not just grow back. Next day 5 men showed up at 9am with a van loaded with turf and they refilled and relayed the entire length of the ruts they had caused.

These things are sometimes inevitable but a good site manager is there to keep the workers under control.

We are on a new build estate and there are still houses being built. Whilst it’s noisy, I must say the builders are respectful. No serious noise before 8am.

I would have a word
