To worry that I’ll never taste anything again?

Over a month ago I got Covid. Wasn’t as bad as the first time I got it, body aches, temperature and fever, headache and coughing but I could still move around and “get on” with stuff which I couldn’t do first time around.

Anyway, one thing I got this time was a loss of taste and smell. I got this first time too but this time it completely went, like i literally had NO taste or smell. I didn’t eat for 3 days as it turns out that when you can’t taste stuff, you’re rarely genuinely hungry.

Anyway! All symptoms gone now and I’m feeling ok again apart from I still have no taste or smell!! It’s been a month and I’m starting to worry I’ve lost it for good. Every now and again I’ll get a faint whiff of something … such as DH cooking onions on Friday - smelt it faintly but still could not taste them. Tonight he made roast dinner … I slept the meat cooking but have been completely unable to taste anything. Coffee just tastes like hot water, I’ve just had a biscuit and it had literally no taste at all, not even a hint. I’m trying to sniff my newly washed pjs and there is no smell at all. My smell comes back randomly but faintly - I can smell something one minute but when I try and smell it again it’s gone.

Im barely eating for a month, losing weight. Really worrying it’s never going to come back!?

My son has had no taste or smell for 3 years now due to Covid! ☹️

Mine took about six months to come back. It was the loss of smell that I found most distressing, weirdly.

Two years after Covid my sense of smell is not as good as it was but taste seems fine.

I use a lot of spices and have to really hang my nose over the pan to smell them, whereas DP will call through from another room that the food smells good!
