AIBU to ask to see your weird charity shop or antique market finds?

I cannot resist kitsch homeware, especially Christian/religion things( despite being atheist) and can't seem to come out of a shop without another piece of tat treasure

I love a charity shop but have nothing exciting to share.

Could you sell them? It's amazing what people will buy online!

I collect (term used very loosely) birds, mostly ceramic, and also have a chicken/ hen collection in the kitchen. The birds are in the sitting room and dining room. I started with owls but branched to other species when I came across four lovely little ceramic sparrows one day, followed by a pair of pigeons.

I also have two 'hen on nest' egg bowls, both vintage and quite quirky. One is Depression glass, and the other is hand painted ceramic. I keep a bag of ground coffee in one and hard candy in the other.

I still regret leaving a splendid rooster behind one day. I went back the following day but he was gone.

Oh this all sounds amazing!
I have these in my living room. The ones on the leaf are tiny ceramics and the parrot is an old pub ornament, it's head comes off to store nuts in 😅

This is actually quite unbelievable but I bought an original Joan Eardley. Paid £30 for it. It has since been appraised at c. £10,000.

Wow! Is that because someone didn't know what it was, or because you got it when her paintings weren't appreciated?

They didn’t realise what they had. It was in a terrible cheap frame - I thought it was a print myself when I bought it! Then I took the frame apart to clean it, discovered it wasn’t a print, and took it to an auctioneer to be verified and appraised.

I made a £500 donation to the charity shop since I felt a bit guilty for getting it so cheap!

There's a group on Facebook for this. Something like "weird charity shop finds".

It both amuses and terrifies me every day.
