Just heard all trains have stopped and the station is closed? Is that right? What’s going on?

Something to do with overhead wires being mentioned on twitter

PoopedAndScooped · 09/08/2024 20:22

Over head lines

Go to St Pancras instead

Rosebud21 · 09/08/2024 20:44

Kings Cross underground station is open, BAU

Used to happen a lot. Takes a few hours to solve usually.

I can tell you..,, because I'm trying to get there.

We were on a Leeds train to LKX, to pick up Eurostar tomorrow morning. There has been damage to the overhead power cables to the line south of St Neot's, so the line has no power. I don't know how far south the power loss is for, but there a big gap around St Neot's'

Our train turned round and took us back to Peterborough, where apparently LNER are putting on coaches, but were encouraging people to get their own taxis if possible,, so here we are. Excrement hungry, £300 lighter, speeding down the A1 in a van at a rather alarming rate.

Checking the National Rail website, there's also no trains seemingly in and out of Manchester Piccadilly.

Won't be fun for Manchester City fans trying to get to Wembley tomorrow if it continues.

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads 😂 at “excrement hungry”. Shitty situation, indeed.

LIZS · 09/08/2024 22:17

Nothing going North and trains terminating at/running up from Newcastle.

Still chaos this morning apparently..

CormorantStrikesBack · 10/08/2024 06:45

Literally every time I go to London either this happens or someone has stolen cable and the results are the same. I go to London 2 or 3 times a year and it’s happened the last 5 times. I must be very unlucky but I’m sick of it. Only bonus is that I always get my ticket refunded due to the delays. No idea how LNER make a profit.

BloodyAdultDC · 10/08/2024 07:09

Fucksake. DD is supposed to be travelling alone to LKX today to meet her dad. Thanks for the heads up!

(Late teen but unused to travelling alone)

LIZS · 10/08/2024 07:50

It is supposed to resume around middday. Alternative routes are offered, via Euston etc.

I've used LNER every 6-8 weeks between. Leeds and London for 2 years. I've never had a journey that wasn't delayed, although last night was by far the worst.

There was a thread a few weeks ago from someone asking whether it would be ok to put her young teens on a train at King's Cross, to be met by their grandparents in Leeds. Everyone who didn't know the line was like "sure, what's the worst thing that could happen?". Everyone who knew the line was like "let me count the ways".
