Do you think there seems to be an increase in angry drivers?

30 minute journey - mainly motorways - there seems to be a LOT of impatient drivers cutting up other drivers , pushing into lanes , aggressive driving manner, leaving it too late to get into the lane to exit, lack of indicators etc. Thoughts?

I think there's been a massive increase in angry people in general tbh

I think there’s an increase in bad drivers, they’re not necessarily angry.

JamSandle · 09/08/2024 12:40

I dont drive but a friend of mine said only yesterday that she's considering giving up driving due to how hostile some of her recent drives have been.

Tara336 · 09/08/2024 12:46

I drive a lot on motorways do the same journey of quite some distance almost weekly. I don't see an awful lot of bad driving,.however, once the s hool holidays start (or holiday season in general) the bad driving and angry drivers become more prevalent.

I think there.are two reasons, you have people who rarely drive on motorways and are nervous/indecisive/oblivious to other road users and make silly mistakes. You also have the regular motorway drivers who get frustrated by the extra traffic and then make bad driving decisions because of it.

PashaMinaMio · 09/08/2024 12:48

You are probably right.
I drive regularly on motorways.
I try to drive defensively so that I have time to anticipate what other driving numb sculls might do.

Many drivers do not know or care that it is illegal to stay in lane 2 of the motorway unless you’re are overtaking. This drives me nuts.

I cannot get excited about others’ bad driving. I don’t suffer from road rage. I have front and rear cameras in my car. I am a quick driver but only when it’s safe to do so and always within legal limits.

Maybe driving has got worse in/around more densely populated areas? Given the above I hardly notice. I just let the twats get on with it.

I agree with @Tara336 - driving is often worse in the summer holidays as you have more people driving in unfamiliar places. I can't say I've noticed it generally.

Yes, I've been thinking this only recently. I've nearly been run off the road going round a roundabout and beeped at twice at other separate roundabouts within the past month or so.

First time was a much older bloke trying to race me round (it was one of those where two lanes merge into one) and rather than pull in behind me when it became single carriageway he thought pushing me off the road was an easier option. Then when I sounded my horn gave me the wanker sign 🙄

Second and third times have been daft kids entering roundabouts at twice the speed limit for the area, both times the road has been clear when I've committed to go and they've appeared at my right and gestured or beeped. I've been driving for 35 years next year without incident and suddenly these children are giving me the middle finger for driving safely - it's crazy!

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 09/08/2024 12:58

Yes, there are some incredibly bad drivers around and some of those bad drivers are very aggressive.

I had someone try to cut me up on a roundabout, then pull in behind me and proceed to sit on my bumper, holding his horn non stop and followed me home. I rang DH to let him know and he stood waiting for me, was funny watching BMW man attempt to make a quick getaway once he noticed DH as we live on a one way, private, dead end road 😆

The city I live in, that is famous for roundabouts and concrete cows, has an issue with bad drivers. Because it's all 70mph dual carriageways it gets treated like a race track and woe betide you slow them down!

WeakAsIAm · 09/08/2024 13:31

There is an absolute increase in poor drivers. Use the motorway daily and the amount of people who sit in the middle lane when the first lane is empty drives me insane.
People who don't know how to use roundabouts so they indicate right when they're going straight on.
Drivers who have really got nowhere to go and are just out having a little pootle down the road at 15mph or cause accidents because they should've given up their licence 20 years ago.
I long for the days of lockdown when most of the poor drivers were furloughed and we the people that needed to still go into work could use the roads in peace.
