To upgrade our 'glamping' accommodation

Me, DH and kids have been to a particular glamping place a few times. We like it because although it's out in countryside it has lots for the kids to do and explore and me and DH always enjoy it too. This year however the accommodation we have isn't great. It's alot older, smells quite musty and isn't very clean (I had to give the fridge a wipe out when we got here and it's full of spiders which me and DS absolutely hate) it doesn't seem up to the usual standard from when we've stayed here before. Not to mention the fact that the sofa bed me and DH are on is the most uncomfortable thing I've ever been on and I'm currently 36 weeks pregnant so probably seems even worse. I've looked on the website and it seems like they have one of their newest lodges available for the time we're here but an upgrade to that would be an extra £150. I'm more than willing to pay that but DH thinks we should just make the most of where we are, AIBU to want to sleep in a bit of comfort without spiders all over us if we've already paid alot to stay here?

Do it.

Depends. If you've paid £1000 or so then it's not worth ruining it to save £150. If you've paid £300 then it's a lot more on top. Could you politely complain about the cleanliness and uncomfortable bed and see if they'll do anything to improve it for free?

We paid almost £500 which does already seem alot but we're here for another 3 nights, this is our first night here and I can already tell I'm not going to get a wink of sleep. There's not really anything they'll be able to do about the sofa bed I don't think, it already has two thick mattress topper things on it and we can't swap with the kids as it's not big enough for them to sleep on. I do feel annoyed about the cleanliness thing as it's usually really great here but not long after we got here I had to clean the fridge and DH had to go round getting rid of spiders and cobwebs (we arrived at a time when it was self check in or we would have asked them to come do it, no one there till the morning now).

I'd pay the extra then. But I'd want to view the lodge first.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 08/08/2024 23:48

Do it

5foot5 · 09/08/2024 00:15

If you think the new lodge will be worth it then just do it. I mean, unless money is really tight, £150?

SiobhanSharpe · 09/08/2024 00:22

I'd definitely pay it but I would also tell the owners or managers about the dirty fridge, spiders and spiderwebs and the very uncomfortable sofa bed. They should address all those points, if not for you then for the next people who hire it. But really they should do something about your complaints now.

Ginkypig · 09/08/2024 00:24

If you can afford it then I’d definitely do it, it breaks down to £50 a night for a good nights sleep and more comfortable surroundings especially as you are heavily pregnant!

to be honest though I think you should complain as you have stayed before you know this isn’t to the normal standard and you can tell them how much you’ve enjoyed previous stays which is why this stay is so disappointing

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 09/08/2024 00:26

I would do it. DH might not think it’s worth it but it’s not him that’s pregnant!

Wendysfriend · 09/08/2024 00:30

It sounds awful. If you're a regular the owners should be willing to help you out, they'll know you're not complainers. I'd put across nicely my issues first thing and ask if they have anything else available and see if they offer you the lodge, you never know they could upgrade you and if they don't offer then ask outright about the lodge. I couldn't sleep knowing there was a heap of spiders on me, I'd actually leave the accommodation 😂

SantasRubiksCube · 09/08/2024 00:32

Thanks everyone for replying, I felt like I was being ott but it's half past midnight and I'm still wide awake as I'm so uncomfortable and paranoid that a spider is going to crawl on me (pathetic I know but I bloody hate the damn things). Money isn't too tight that we couldn't pay extra, it feels like this first night here has been a bit of a wash out as it's been pissing down and none of us seem particularly happy with what we're staying in, although I know they can't help with the weather 😅

Yes thank you, I went and complained to reception and asked if they had any other accommodation for us to stay in. They were very apologetic that the first place wasn't any good and they moved us to a new lodge for a very discounted price and even gave us an extra night for free! We're much happier and enjoying our holiday now 😊
