Safety at Emirates Cup on Sunday

Hello
Can anyone advise in what life is like around Arsenal/Islington at the moment please?
Family have clubbed together to buy my dh a ticket, with hospitality so not cheap, to the Emirates Cup at Arsenal on Sunday. Its for his 60th birthday. He really wants to go but all this violence is putting him off. He's not sure about going now! Our ds is going with him & shows no concern whatsoever. He's also paid for his own ticket do he'd lose out as well.
As much as I understand his concerns I'm sure life is carrying on as normal in this area. All they've got to do is get the train to Euston then one tube ride up to the stadium & back.
Should they go or play it safe at home. My vote is just to crack on as normal & go to the match

I just drove past the Emirates and i
It was quiet and peaceful. Keep an eye on the news.

Shoxfordian · 07/08/2024 17:29

I don't think there have really been riots in or around London so it'll be fine. Also likely to be really heavily policed so even safer

PerfectYear321 · 07/08/2024 17:30

I've not heard of anything specifically in Islington. In your DH's shoes I would go. In fact let me know if he doesn't want his ticket Grin

Sadly there's warnings for trouble in North Finchley and Walthamstow tonight. Saw on insta.

IMustDoMoreExercise · 07/08/2024 17:32

We all here now for the Leverkusen game and it is just the same as normal.

Really looking forward to seeing Xhaka. He is my my favorite player ever.

We are coming back on Sunday with our kids and grandkids. Can't wait.

That is nowhere near the Emirates.

OpenBox · 07/08/2024 17:33

I agree with you @Oldbean1965 they should just go

BlondeFool · 07/08/2024 17:35

@IMustDoMoreExercise I know! I was replying to the poster saying nothing is happening in London. There's warnings about tonight.

I also replied saying I just drove past the Emirates and it was fine.

Oldbean1965 · 07/08/2024 17:44

Thank you all for reassurances. I'll pass them onto him. He read that trouble might be in those areas mentioned but I managed to convince him they're nowhere near Arsenal. Also, if the risk was so bad they wouldn't be holding a match tonight, never mind on Sunday. I'm sure the tube is as packed as ever with folks just going about their daily lives

It’s fine. I can’t see the racists coming into the area & daring to cause trouble & it’s not been on any lists of potential targets I’ve seen. If any of them are Arsenal supporters they’re not going to risk their season tickets by rioting outside the stadium on Sunday.

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 07/08/2024 20:17

I don't imagine that a few dozen racists are going to try it on with several tens of thousands of Arsenal fans. They'll be fine.

It was a great match. We won 4-1.

So nice to see Xhaka.

No problems at all.

Oldbean1965 · 11/08/2024 12:43

@IMustDoMoreExercise dh & ds are safely in the Club 1886 hospitality & not a rioter in sight outside the stadium 😅 it's a good job i made him go! Enjoy the match & hope they win

I was thinking of you on the way back and was going to check if you went.

Yes, it was a great game. I hope they were in the shade!

They didn't do a penalty shoot out which was a shame.

Wow they had Club 1886 tickets and they he thought about not going!

We brought our own sandwiches!

We have never done anything like that, but we always sit at Club Level,

IMustDoMoreExercise · 11/08/2024 19:13

@Oldbean1965

How much were the tickets, if you don't mind me asking?

Oldbean1965 · 11/08/2024 19:13

@IMustDoMoreExercise I didn't go, I'm relaxing in the Peak District, but they've had a great day. Sat by Timber, who's injured, had a chat with him & a photo too. All air conditioned inside the restaurant/bar so all good 🙂

Oldbean1965 · 11/08/2024 19:19

@IMustDoMoreExercise They had the Club 1886 package, which for the Emirates Cup was £145. You get three alcohol drinks, 3 course street food meal, program, decent seats. I think they were sat with players families too. For the league games Club 1886 costs about £450 to £500 if I remember rightly. There's a lot more dearer packages too, but will save that for when he retires

@IMustDoMoreExercise I know! (Re your comment about him being unsure about going) I told him he's going lol. Family members had clubbed together for his ticket for his 60th & ds had paid for his own ticket! But he realised he was over reacting & loved it, which I knew he would

That's great to hear.

It would have been so disappointing for him if he had missed it especially as it was a present.

Did Timber say how long he is expected to be out for?

YouOnlyCameToSeeEboue · 11/08/2024 20:55

I only go to the club level for Emirates cup, or Legends games when they have them (those are the best fun). It's lovely when I can waiting for that lottery win.

But even the normal seats are good at the Emirates.

Milybar · 11/08/2024 21:00

Be fine. I was in London the the other week when the Tommy Robinson rally was on and whilst lairy on the Strand, it didn’t really kick off due to the number of police. Going to a football game won’t be a problem.

Iamthemoom · 11/08/2024 21:01

We've been in exactly that area the past couple of weeks and it's totally fine, no violence, no tension, just everyone living side by side peacefully as Londoners do. North London definitely isn't a problem area.

Oblomov24 · 11/08/2024 21:07

It'll be totally fine. What a gift!
