Presenting as homeless to local council (DV)

I am seeking advice please. I am currently making a plan to leave my EA/VA marriage and after seeking advice from Women’s Aid they advised that one option could be that I declare myself homeless to a housing association/local council.

I currently rent a housing association property with my husband, we have two children and one of them is disabled.

Has anyone done anything similar?

What would happen if I was to do that? Would I stay in my current property while I waited for the council to provide a place? Would I have to immediately leave? Very confused about doing something so extreme but need to finally leave my marriage.

Thank you

You actually need to leave. Or he does.
If you stay there you won’t be helped.

If he’s been violent can you get him removed and stay in the current place? By far the easiest option if you have children.

He’s not physically violent. Although there have been physical threats. It’s verbal abuse and psychological abuse/emotional abuse.
